A fatal accident at the Richard Petty Exotic Driving Experience at the Walt Disney World Speedway on April 13 claimed the life of longtime team member Gary Terry. The 36-year-old was the Senior Operations Manager and professional driving instructor for the Exotic Driving Experience and was a passenger in the car at the time of the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Terry was a passenger in a two-door Lamborghini that was being driven by Tavon Watson. Reports state that Watson lost control of the vehicle on the course and hit a guardrail.
Terry was pronounced dead at the scene. Watson was transferred to Celebration Hospital and has since been released. Both men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The Exotic Driving Experience gives guests a chance to drive Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Audis, and Porches with an instructor in the passenger seat.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has reportedly opened an investigation into the fatal crash.
The Walt Disney World Speedway and the Richard Petty Driving Experience will be closed for at least a week. The attraction is permanently closing in August.

Tragic. I hope they don't accelerate the permanent closure of the track citing this as a reason. When people ask me what an adult can do at WDW, this is usually one of the first things I mention in my, "it's not just for kids" explanation.

Dave - Permanent closure of the track is already slated for the end of the Summer, August 9th is the last day that reservations can be made for. I'm sad that the rumor mill will probably remember the track as closing due to the accident, which is not the case.
