For the third year in a row Brazilian runner Fredison Costa has won the Walt Disney World Marathon. His finish time was 2:33:24. Costa has won the Marathon five times in the last six years.
Costa, who has lived in Orlando for the last two years, trains at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex with former US Olympic track coach Brooks Johnson. Sunday's weather during the marathon was unseasonably warm and humid which led to Costa's time being the slowest of his five wins.
Brazilian Mateus Trindade finished second with a time of 2:34:49 and Jeff Martinez of Binghamton, New York, finished third with a time of 2:36:00.
The first female finisher was Natasha Yaremczuk of Montverde, Florida with a time of 2:52:23. This was the first time Yaremczuk has won at Walt Disney World. Jennifer Walton of Wesley Chapel, Florida placed second and Corina Canitz of Brookfield, Wisconsin placed third.
More than 26,000 runners participated in Sunday's marathon and more than 7,500 runners participated in all four weekend events: the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon which was called the "Dopey Challenge."
The next runDisney event at the Walt Disney World Resort is the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February.
