Hurricane Irma is currently churning its way through the Atlantic and was upgraded to a category 5 storm this morning. And, while the track of Hurricane Irma is still uncertain, the forecast cone for the category 5 hurricane covers all of Central and Southern Florida, including the Orlando area.
Which means, if you have a vacation planned at Disney World this weekend, it may be impacted by the storm.
Currently Irma is packing winds of 180 mph and is the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic in more than 10 years. It is expected to make landfall in the southern United States sometime this weekend.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency in all 67 counties in the state as a precaution.
The Walt Disney World Resort does have a Hurricane Policy for guests and it states in part: "If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area"or for your place of residence"within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may call in advance to reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Magic Your Way vacation package and most room only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney."
During Hurricane Matthew last year, Disney did close the theme parks and advised guests to stay in their resort hotel rooms.
