The Invictus Games Orlando 2016 kicked off Sunday, May 8, with a star-studded opening ceremony at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Earlier in the day the athletes were welcomed to the Magic Kingdom during a parade down Main Street U.S.A.
The games were founded by Prince Harry in 2014 and are the "only international adaptive sporting event for injured active duty and veteran service members." The games run through May 12.
The games "use the power of sport to inspired recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, ill, or injured servicemen and women who are transitioning into civilian life."
You can learn more about three of the competitors at the Invictus Games here.
The games include more than 500 athletes from 14 countries competing in 10 sports including archery, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, swimming, indoor rowing, and more.
The swimming pool venue for the games is quite impressive: it took more than three weeks to build the temporary swimming pool and it's filled with more than 1 million gallons of water. Check out the time lapse video here.
Tickets are still available for the events and the closing ceremony. Visit www.invictusgames2016.org for more information.

I'm so excited about this! The Invictus Games are absolutely wonderful and I'm delighted that they're being held at Disney this year.
