After months of waiting the Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen is finally open at the Magic Kingdom. The restaurant was in "soft opening" since December 13 but today is the official opening day. The Skipper Canteen is located in Adventureland.
The 222-seat table service restaurant is serving up dishes inspired by flavors from Asia, South America, and Africa. The wait staff at the restaurant is made up of the world famous Jungle Cruise Skippers.
The backstory of the restaurant is that Alberta Falls (the granddaughter of Dr. Albert Falls, founder of the Jungle Navigation Company) has decided to open the family home up to hungry Jungle Cruise passengers for a pre- or post-cruise meal.
Guests are seated in one of three dining rooms: the Crew's Mess Hall, the Falls Family Parlor, or the Secret Meeting Room of the S.E.A. (Society of Adventurers and Explorers).
Currently the menu is the same for lunch and dinner (both are table service meals) and feature items including house-made arepas, Dr. Falls' Signature Grilled Steak, Falls Family Falafel, the Skip's Mac and Cheese, and Tastes Like Chicken Because It Is.
Other items include Trader Sam's Head-on Shrimp and Rice Noodle Bowls with an Asian pho broth. Little cruisers can choose from items including Junior Skip's Special Mac and Cheese, Amazon Annie's House-made arepas, and Smiley's Little Croc of Chicken Noodle Soup.
No alcoholic beverages are served at the Skipper Canteen but guests can enjoy two specialty non-alcoholic drinks: the Punch Line Punch and the Schweitzer Slush, which is served in a souvenir Skipper Canteen cup.
Desserts include Kungaloosh! (a chocolate cake served with caramelized bananas and cashew-caramel ice cream) and a Coconut Bar with Pineapple-Basil Compote and Vanilla Ice Cream.
The Skipper Canteen is open for lunch and dinner and the Disney Dining Plan will be accepted.
