News out of Marvel continues to expand the universe that has become a huge, box office draw. Six months since it was released that Marvel and Netflix would be teaming up for a round of Marvel-centric shows like the popular "Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards", Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada went on record confirming that The Defenders will be the next property to get Marvel/Disney treatment. Joe Quesada was quoted as saying, on Kevin Smith's Fat Man on Batman podcast:
There will be some interconnectivity, much like the movies. They will exist within the cinematic universe again, so this is all the same world as 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' and 'The Avengers.'
The Defenders make up a completely different quality to the Marvel Universe. The Avengers focus on a more corporate or governmental story while the Guardians of the Galaxy are more 'space opera' but the Defenders are heroes for the every man. They are grittier, protecting people in the area of New York known as Hell's Kitchen. Four heroes will round out this new team: Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones.
Beginning next year, the Defenders will follow the same type of scheduling that Marvel Cinematic has created for its Avengers properties. Starting with Daredevil, these four shows will roll out and eventually culminate in, what is being called a Defenders miniseries.
We at Walt Disney World for Grown-ups are very interested to see how this new medium will play out with Marvel and Netflix, would you watch the new series? How interested does this 'street' level superhero team make you? If you know these heroes, which one(s) do you like?
