At this weekend's D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts, gave attendees an update about Pandora - The World of Avatar which is opening in the summer of 2017.
There is a new entry bridge at Disney's Animal Kingdom which leads to Pandora - The World of Avatar. The backstory is that the bridge was built "during a time when a destructive company called the RDA " Resources Development Administration came to Pandora."
The bridge will serve as the entry into the Alpha Centauri Expeditions base camp, which is the eco-tour group that hosts guests in Pandora.
The new Avatar-themed area will feature two new signature attractions: Avatar Flight of Passage where guests fly over the jungles of Pandora, and Na'Vi River Journey which is a family-friendly boat ride through the bioluminescent forests.
Pandora - The World of Avatar will also feature the Satu'li Canteen, the "main dining establishment for Pandora"; Windtraders, the gift shop; and Pongu Pongu, a new beverage location.
The new area is scheduled to open in the summer of 2017 and will "complete the transformation of Disney's Animal Kingdom."
