New Medal for 2012 Disney Marathon Weekend

Runners, lace up your shoes for the 2012 Disney Marathon weekend, which is set for January 5 through January 8. Registration opened up this past week, and runners have several options to choose from.

The Disney Marathon is a 26.2 mile course that winds its way throughout the four parks. Those wanting to participate in the marathon, but not wanting to run the full distance, can pair up with a partner for the Disney Marathon Relay in which each runner will be responsible for 13.1 miles. Both options will share the same course.

Those runners participating in the Relay will receive a new character medal. This medal, which features Chip and Dale, is the first character medal to be introduced at the Marathon Weekend since 2006.

Also getting a new medal are participants in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. The special medal featuring Donald Duck helps mark the race's 15th anniversary.

Kids also have a chance to participate January 6 and 7 during the Disney Kids' Races. Held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Track & Field Complex, kids 13 years old and younger can participate in the Mickey Mile. Shorter races are available for those 8 and under, and even the youngest Disney fans can participate in a Diaper Dash.

Also available is the Family Fun Run 5K. Designed for adults, teens and tweens, the course runs through Epcot and offers up plenty of Disney characters, entertainment and fun.

Can't seem to find a partner for the Disney relay. I would like to do the second half. Is anyone interested in doing the first half?

Would love to run/walk the Inaugural Chip and Dale. Have not registered yet.....was waiting to see if my grandson would be able to make it....he can't. So, I am still looking for a relay partner.....1st or 2nd leg doesn't matter......WARNING, I am slow and will be slower due run/walking the 1/2 the day before.
