"Fantasmic," one of the most popular attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios, is slated to have more seating available in the near future. Disney is planning to install more benches at the show's amphitheater by the end of this month.
The plan to install the new seating stems from interviews by Disney with DHS guests. Says Dan Cockerell, vice president of DHS:
Lo and behold, we discovered that guests that were sitting have a significantly better experience than the ones that were standing. We're looking for more and more ways to kind of get a hassle-free experience for our guests, make it more comfortable for them, more convenient.
While the new benches will certainly add more seating room (they're to be installed in the "standing room only" section of the amphitheater), they won't add to the overall capacity of the show. Somewhere around 9,000 guests can enjoy each performance of "Fantasmic."
Guests can expect the fourteen-year-old nighttime show to largely remain the same, according to Cockerell. It is possible, though, that the Walt Disney World version of "Fantasmic" could see guest interactivity, such as the glow-with-the-show mouse ear hats currently found in the Disneyland version, incorporated into the show in the future.

The glow-with-the-show mouse ears in Disneyland really aren't all they're cracked up to be. You can only really see the effect if you're sitting in the far back, behind the massive crowd of people (and, of course, a large number of people need to be wearing them). If you're up close, or right behind someone wearing those ears, it's just an annoyance. Glowing stuff in your face and blocking your view while you're trying to enjoy the show.
Granted, the effect is pretty awesome if you get a chance to see it done the right way. Good idea in principle, I'd say. Slightly disappointing in real life.

I can see what you're saying about the glow ears Amanda. I think that the stadium seating at WDW is probably a better venue for the glow ears than the Rivers of America would be.
