When you think about the ultimate Disney snacks, you may think Turkey Legs, or Churros. But when my mind wanders to the most delicious and magical treats on my list, I go straight for the Dole Whip. This soft serve pineapple treat is the stuff of legends from coast to coast, and has achieved an almost cult-like status amongst regular Disney travelers as the must eat treat when you're passing though Adventureland. Luckily - that's not the only spot Guests can grab a dish of this tropical delight. Walt Disney World guests not heading to a Park for the day can get their fix at The Pineapple Lanai at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
The Pineapple Lanai is a relatively new addition to the 45 year old resort, having opened its shutters in 2014 as part of the Disney Vacation Club remodeling and expansion project. Located on the ground floor at the Great Ceremonial House, this quick stop for a luscious treat sits just outside the back lobby doors. Not much more than an alcove shrine to the smooth and creamy pineapple soft serve, the Lanai does offer limited patio seating.
While the Pineapple Lanai is a pretty simple spot, Disney's Imagineers paid homage to the fan favorite throughout the details of the service window. The tile backsplash of the service area is perfect Dole Whip Yellow, and the light fixtures conjure up images of the perfect swirl. On the counters you'll find fresh pineapples, a true symbol of hospitality.
What's on the menu is Dole Whip, served one in a couple of creative ways. There's the straight classic pineapple soft serve, pineapple soft serve swirled with vanilla, or the Pineapple Float which is Dole Whip floating in fresh pineapple juice. My husband tends to call this last one "pineapple explosion." In addition, guests have the option to order a souvenir sipper or tiki bowl to take home.
Now that Dole Whip has moved here from its previous location at Captain Cook's you can't get it 24 hours a day. That was disappointing to several people I know. However - if you head on over to the Pineapple Lanai any day between 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM, they should be able to hook you up.
Is the Pineapple Lanai a regular stop on your monorail crawl? I'll be honest, it is for mine. Leave a comment and share your thoughts about this fun quick service location.
