Pre-trip Tips For Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend

runDisney's Princess Marathon Weekend is set to kick off from February 18-February 21, 2016 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This fun race has been a catalyst for inspiring women, who never before dreamed of running, out the door and training for distances that they once thought impossible. I know it's true, because my friends and I have been some of them. There's something inspiring and encouraging about the runDisney community, and it doesn't matter if you do a 5K, 10K, or 13.1 Miles - participants should be proud of their commitment, courage, and strength.

Here are just a few tips to help would be Princesses get ready for traveling!

1) Take a test run in your full gear, especially if it's a costume. This will help you to make sure there won't be any awkward chaffing, or malfunctions. Be sure to check the new 2016 runDisney Safety & Costume Guidelines to make sure you are in compliance.

2) It's often cold at the starting line, bring a sweatshirt or long sleeved tee that you can take off and toss when you start getting warm. After the race Disney collects the throw-away clothes to charity, so don't feel bad if you toss something cute!

3) Be sure that any liquids or gels you bring are packed in a TSA approved manner. That means no more than 3oz bottles that fit into a 1 quart bag

4) If you're flying, be sure to pack your running gear in your carry-on bag. Luggage can get lost, and you don't want your gear (especially your shoes) in Tulsa when you're in Orlando.

5) Bring a signed copy of your waiver along with you to the Expo, this will save you some time, giving you more to check out the fun vendors and speakers.

6) Cliff Bars, Oatmeal, and Peanut Butter Bagels are easily packable. Be sure that you'll be able to keep your routine on race-day and bring your regular pre-run food along with you. You'll be standing at the starting for quite awhile before the race starts, don't be caught starting off without proper nutrition.

7) Dry socks, flip flops, and a clean shirt can make your post-race experience much nicer. Pack these things in a small thin backpack and drop them off at gear check to pick up directly after the race.

8) Bring along a loved one, or many loved ones, to share the experience with you. Whether they run along with you, or cheer from the sidelines, victory loves company!

Participating in Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend was one of the most empowering and fun experiences of my adult life. It inspired me to be strong and active, and it brought me closer to realizing a goal. I salute all those Princesses getting ready right now to run (or walk) those magical miles once again. Now - grab your tiara, lace up those slippers, and have the time of your life!

Princess was my first runDisney experience. I had such a blast that I have since been to Tink and Star Wars in Disneyland.

To add to tip #5 - don't forget your ID. Don't worry if you forget your waiver, they have computers and printers available.
