The Rock is Ready to Lend His Voice to Disney’s ‘Moana’

Disney's next animated film, Moana, has cast Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the voice of Maui, a Hawaiian demi-god.

Johnson tweeted out the news on December 3 saying, "Excited to star as "Maui" in Disney's next big animated musical, MOANA. Incredible story! **clears throat #TimeToSing."

Moana is described as an "animated comedy-adventure about a spirited teenager on an impossible mission to fulfill her ancestors' quest." The film is being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the team behind The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, and Aladdin.

The film takes place nearly 2,000 years ago in Oceania where Moana tries to complete her quest and meets many sea creatures and her hero, Maui.

No other roles have been filled on the film and Disney is conducting a search for an actress to voice the role of Moana.

The role of Maui will be The Rock's first voice over since Planet 51 in 2009.

Moana arrives in theaters in 2016.
