It's finally here! After months and months of conjecture and guessing, Star Wars: The Force Awakens released midnight on Thursday night. And let me tell you that this movie didn't disappoint. But I get ahead of myself, let's take a step back and look at the worldwide premiere.
Wednesday night, right outside the famous Grauman's Chinese theatre, the world premiere for the beginning of a brand new Star Wars franchise began. Every single member of the cast was there, still keeping their lips sealed but each and every one was excited to show this labor of love. And as the movie ended, people came streaming from the theater...and from the press to the actors and those who waited in line a week, all keeping mum on what they had just seen. As the beginning reviews begin to trickle out, fans are seeing more than 30 positive reviews to every 1 negative.
It is now Friday and Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially opened and people have made this silent pledge to not ruin the movie for anyone...so far. I am one who agrees with this, so let me share my opinion of the movie without spoiling anything. If you're still on the fence about going, take a peak at the trailer below.
The New York Times says this about Star Wars: The Force Awakens:
It seamlessly balances cozy favorites " Harrison Ford, ladies and gentlemen " and new kinetic wows, along with some of the niceties that went missing as the series grew into a phenomenon, most crucially a scale and a sensibility that are rooted in the human.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is everything I had hoped it would be. The movie is old school fun, that only Star Wars could bring me. Sitting in the theater, surrounded by cosplayers , baby boomers, parents bringing their children for the first time, and so many more, I felt like I did when I was 7 again. I remember sitting in this little theater near the UC Santa Barbara campus. The screen exploded in front of me and those words that I have waited to see filled the heart and mind of a young boy: "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy far, far away." I have to say that I was worried that this movie wouldn't live up to the hype but it did and deep own that 7 year old boy is still in awe of Star Wars.
