While this story isn't exactly breaking Disney news, in honor of Valentine's Day, we thought we'd highlight this story about the award-winning roses at the Magic Kingdom.
If you're walking to Cinderella's Castle from Main Street, look off to the right and you'll spot an extensive rose garden. It's been there since 1980, and has won recognition for its excellence from the All-American Rose Selection committee. In that garden today, you can take in several different varieties, including St. Patrick, All That Jazz, Betty Boop and Candelabra. A bonus? The garden is hand-pruned annually around this time to keep it looking good for Valentine's Day (it also gets a pruning near the beginning of fall).
In contrast, a broken planter in front of the Haunted Mansion houses Louie Philip roses which have an unmainted look. Turns out, it takes a lot of care to make sure the flowers look neglected; these roses are often "given" to newbie Disney gardeners for practice.

LOVE LOVE LOVE The Plaza Rose Garden. I make a bee line for this when we hit the MK. It's just beyond gorgeous!
