Cab fare in Orlando just got a little steeper as the City Council voted this past Monday to increase rates by 9 percent. Though this isn't directly involving the happiest place on earth, there are Disney World guests that do utilize cab services when visiting central Florida.
While the fare increase applies only to the city of Orlando, Mears Transportation owns around half of the taxi cabs servicing in and around the city. A spokesperson for that company said Mears plans to adhere to the rate increase throughout the Orlando area.
So what can you expect to pay for a cab ride in Orlando now? The first mile will set you back $2.40 (up from $2.20) while each quarter mile after that will be sixty cents (up from fifty-five). A ten mile taxi ride will cost around $25.80.
And while the rates for taxi cab service in Orlando has risen, the City Council also voted to drop a fuel surcharge previously instated due to high gas prices.

It seems that the economy has led to a rise in costs of just about everything but I guess that is to be expected. Nothing seems to be untouched but it is great that you have provided this information so there are no nasty surprises.
Prices going up on cab rides in Orlando is no surprise but what is surprising is that it took interesting articles in 2012 this long to do it because of the gas costs.
