Walt Disney Company Gets Green Light to Build New High-Tech Studio Complex at Golden Oak Ranch

The Walt Disney Company received approval from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to go ahead with plans to build a new high-tech production studio. The new studio will be called the Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch and will be built on 58 acres of the Golden Oak Ranch.

The Golden Oak Ranch - which Disney has owned since the late 1950s - is one of the largest television and movie production ranches left in Southern California. Disney first proposed building the new studios back in 2009.

The company says the studio construction project will generate nearly 3,000 jobs and $533 million in economic activity for the area. The ranch is located just south of Santa Clarita, in an area that has the largest concentration of movie studios in the region.

The Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch will be home to at least 12 soundstages, offices, bungalows, a commissary, and parking. While there is no word yet on what sort of productions will take place at the finished studios, it's likely to be home to several television projects.
