During an appearance in Beijing, China last weekend, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that The Walt Disney Company has pledged $1 million in humanitarian aid for the areas affected by the recent deadly earthquake in in China's Southwestern province of Sichuan. The money will be used to rebuild schools in the region.
This is not the first time that Disney has offered to help earthquake victims in China. The company has made donations to the country in 2007 and again in 2010.
In the same keynote address, Kennedy spoke about Disney's initiative to work with the Chinese cultural ministry and Tencent, an Internet company, to help develop China's animation industry. As part of the program, Disney will help the industry create and deliver original content.
LucasFilm was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2012.

Does Disney donate to American disasters?

Yes Barbra, they do!
The Walt Disney Company has a very active charitable giving arm, and they have contributed to many disaster relief efforts in the United States. In addition to donating for emergency services after disasters across the country, they are very supportive and work towards sustainable communities in the Florida and Southern California areas surrounding the Parks.
China is home to Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland is currently under constriction, so it was no surprise to us that the Disney Company offered aid.
