As the State of Florida deals with the growing threat of Zika, the mosquito-borne illness, the Walt Disney World Resort has announced plans to distribute free insect repellent at the theme parks.
Several types of mosquito repellent will be available at the theme parks and hotel rooms will also have aerosol bug spray.
Disney will also be providing guests with guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention with regard to Zika.
Several non-travel-related Zika cases have been reported in Miami Beach and Pinellas County.
In a move that may-or-may-not-be Zika-related, Disney is reportedly draining the 333,000-gallon Upstream Plunge pool at the long-defunct River Country water park. The water park closed in 2002.
While there are no other plans to tear down the rest of the abandoned water park, Disney says the plan to fill in the pool has been in the works for a while.
Not only does the current swamp-like former pool pose a Zika-related risk as a good spot to breed mosquitoes, but the abandoned water park is in close proximity to Fort Wilderness and also poses a danger to guests who might want to sneak in.
Are you worried about Zika when you're visiting Walt Disney World Resort? How do you feel about the plans to fill in the abandoned pool? Let us know in the comments.
