Earlier this year the Walt Disney World Resort announced plans to close the Walt Disney World Speedway, known affectionately as the Mickyard. The Speedway is home to the Richard Petty Driving Experience and was the home of the Exotic Driving Experience, which closed this spring after a fatal accident.
The Speedway will be demolished to make way for an expansion of the Magic Kingdom's parking lot. The paperwork for the demolition and expansion projection was filed by Reedy Creek earlier this month.
The Speedway is set to close on August 9 and the final day is scheduled to end with a charity ride held in collaboration with the Give Kids the World charity.
Last year the Magic Kingdom saw 19 million visitors and was recently named the most visited theme park in the world, so an expansion of the park's parking lot is a likely a very necessary project.
Will you be visiting the Walt Disney World Speedway one more time before it closes this summer? Let us know in the comments.

That lot does get full a couple times a year. You are directed to the EPCOT parking lot. You have to really love people to go on those days!
