Guests visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios may shrink down to the size of a toy as they explore the Park's bright new Toy Story Land, but the areas counter service restaurant is serving up big flavors. Woody's Lunch Box has a menu that features kid friendly American fare, soda floats, and Toy Story-themed specialties.
Woody's Lunch Box is a walk-up window as far as the serving style goes, but the line is directed by Cast Members who keep things moving. After moving through queue, guests simply place an order at the Lotso's Bear-y Bites or Trixie's Treats podiums before moving to pick up their food at the window, and then heading off to find a table.
Andy's spend some serious time putting together the adorable tables, building chairs and benches out of popsicle sticks. While the entire eating area is outdoors, the majority of the tables were well shaded. The Toy Box Gang has a truly wonderous world in Andy's Back Yard, and the Green Army Men keep and eye out over it all. My visit was at about 3:30 in the afternoon and though the line was moving steadily when we ordered, it was hard to get a table. We ended up doing the table vulture thing and swooping in as soon as we saw a family stand.
Woody's has several fun beverages on the menu that will appeal to adults and kids alike. For a non-alcoholic choice I went with an Ice Cream Float with Barq's Root Beer made with Vanilla Soft Serve Ice Cream. It was decent, and if floats are your thing will fit the bill well enough.
The stand out in my opinion though is the Grown-Up's Lemonade. This was without a doubt the best quick service cocktail I had on my last trip. A combination of Three Olives Cherry Vodka, odwalla All-Natural Lemonade and Black Cherry Puree it was bright and fruity with just the right balance of sour. If you're in Toy Story Land and searching for a cocktail, give this one a try.
The dish that I was most looking forward to at Woody's was the BBQ Brisket Melt. I love great brisket, and this sandwich did not disappoint. Disney has really upped its BBQ game across property in the past couple years and I couldn't be more pleased. The Smoked Brisket was nice and lean, topped with pickles and a sweet tangy BBQ Sauce between melted Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheeses. It was all nestled in between two perfectly grilled slices of Sourdough that hold up to both the grilling and the sauces.
Potato Barrels (tater tots) are the classic lunch box side, perfect for popping into your mouth just like you did way back in grade school. While there wasn't anything particularly special about the side of Potato Barrels, they were deep fried fresh and crisp, just the way they should be.
Chocolate-Hazelnut Lunch Box Tart is a Chocolate-Hazelnut stuffed Pastry coated in Maple Fondant and Candied Bacon. There's more of the chocolate than hazelnut in the filling that's stuffed into a sugar cookie crust. The Lunch Box Tarts are more of a really involved cookie more than you would get with a "pop tart." The pop of salt from bacon adds a necessary element to the dessert, but there wasn't nearly enough of that.
The Raspberry Lunch Box Tart was my favorite of the two, with a brighter flavor that came through over the top of the thick pastry crust. Raspberry Marmalade stuffs pastry that is coated in a Strawberry Fondant and decorated with Crispy Pearls. The flavor in this wasn't lacking a thing and will continue to be on my order list in the future.
Overall I would go out of my way to eat at Woody's Lunch Box again, especially if I was visiting during a slower time of the year. Wondering what else is on the menu? Head over to the Disney Food Blog and check out their EVERYTHING ON THE MENU Review!
