Splash Mountain Turns 20

Happy birthday wishes go out to Splash Mountain as today marks this guest favorite's twentieth year in the Magic Kingdom. It was on this date - July 17 - in 1992 that the 86-foot-tall Splash Mountain made its debut in Walt Disney World.

This equal opportunity soaker of a ride draws its inspiration from the 1946 Disney film "Song of the South." Over 70 Audio-Animatronics (which happens to be one of the largest animated casts ever crafted for a Disney attraction) are used to tell the story of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear.

New Character Meet and Greet in Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World has designated a new space for meeting characters within the Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland. Guests can now catch up with their favorite personalities from the Hundred Acre Wood next to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Pooh and his friends used to greet guests near the Splash Mountain exit, but now make their greeting home near Pooh's attraction. In addition, Woody and Jessie of "Toy Story" fame will now be meeting up with guests at the Splash Mountain exit location (they were previously at the upper Splash Mountain gate).

New Lap Bars for Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain opened a few days ago after a month-long refurbishment, and the popular water ride received new lap bars as part of its update. The reason for the addition of the bars? To prevent guests from standing up during the ride or exiting the log boats earlier than instructed.

5 Photos to Get at Magic Kingdom

Where ever you look in Magic Kingdom people are taking pictures. For some of us not-so-great photographer types that can be a little intimidating. I tend to feel a little inadequate snapping pictures on my iPhone when the person next to me is using a dslr (not that I dislike them I am just a little jealous that they have an amazing camera and I have a cell phone).

We have compiled what we think are the 5 photos that everyone should get at some point in their life at Magic Kingdom.

We asked our facebook community "What rides do you most recommend during Extra Magic Hours?" We got a lot of great answers and recommendations that we want to share with you.

For a lot of people it is about getting to ride the rides that normally have a long line during the day.

We asked our Walt Disney World for Grownups Facebook fans, "What's YOUR favorite Magic Kingdom attraction or ride?"

We got some great responses and the quick breakdown shows that Haunted Mansion is a favorite among many, garnering the most mentions. Splash Mountain came in second, with Mickey's Philharmagic, Space Mountain, and Thunder Mountain all tying for third.

5 most thrilling rides at Disney World

Some Disney World guests prefer the calmer Omnimover or boat rides, while others look for heart-pounding, stomach-churning thrills. If it's thrills you're looking for, then boy, have we got some here!

One of my favorite things about Disney World is the variety of attractions -- there's something for every age and every personality. Some prefer the calmer Omnimover or boat rides, while others look for heart-pounding, stomach-churning thrills.

Must Do and Won't Do

So far we've given you our background and our love of food, music, and movies. The one "big" aspect of Disney we haven't touched on yet is the parks themselves. In discussing what we would write about this week, several ideas were tossed about. How best to share our love of the parks? There is so much to discuss, to argue over, to dissect. We decided, as we did with the other topics, to start broadly.
