How coll would it be to go to Disney with a family reunion and have someone from your party be in the American Idol attraction?!? Would love to read a trip report where this has happened, if anyone has one or knows of one.

Do you think as many people will keep auditioning after it starts to get older? I'm wondering what the shelf life on that attraction is.
The UK version of the show, "Pop Idol", only lasted a couple of years in the UK before "X-Factor" replaced it and became much bigger than 'Idol ever was.
I understand that viewing figures for American Idol are already slipping every year. With Simon Cowel leaving and bringing X-Factor to the USA next year numbers may slip even further.
I believe the popularity of the attraction will be directly linked to that of the TV show, so has a limited shelf life. Maybe Disney were a couple fo years late getting this one in.
On the plus side, if UK trends are replicated and X-Factor takes off, it would be pretty easy to rebrand the attraction giving a few more years for little outlay.

I just keep thinking about how the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire attraction long outstayed it's popularity on TV. People still went to it, though!

Very true, Bali. I remember hearing one kid say he had no idea what the show was!
Admin -- it would be cool to have your whole family there! I'm not sure I know anyone who'd be gung ho to audition, though!

I don't pay close attention to these things. I didn't know Simon was leaving American Idol. That has to be terrible for the attraction. That's a good point though that since Idol's diminishing anyway a re-brand could extend it's lifetime. Are there any big differences in the formats of the shows? (I don't really watch either)
The UK X-Factor has categories for 16-24 yeard olds, 24 and over, and for vocal groups. The usually split the under 24's to boys and girls too. iirc, Idol only allows competitors under 24. That's probably the biggest difference.

So when's X-Factor coming over? Very interesting... I wonder if it'll be a hit here.

Groups could be a really good idea. That could extend the period of interest in the attraction.
