And now for something completely obscure... Boar Hunting

Okay, so in my search for non-Disney things to do in Central Florida today I came across a link for boar hunting. I can't say that this is the way I would want to spend my vacation, but for a hunter I can imagine it could be something exciting. I don't think we have a boar season in my neck of the woods. Not that I can say I would know if we did, LOL!

Do you hunt? Have you ever been on a boar hunt?

Oh... check this out... you can also go fishing with a bow and arrow! It seems to me that would just be a way to lose a lot of arrows.

I'm not a hunter but I know some who would enjoy this.

I do have a boar story. When I was in Italy in 2004, I ate at this restaurant that I saw on the Food Network. I ordered pasta with wild boar sauce. When I got back and everyone was asking me what I ate. I told them about this meal. I got funny looks and they said "you ate wild boar, what did it taste like?" I was like "umm, it's pork".

We do not hunt, but the wild boar down here can be out of control They are horrible trouble for yards and landscaping, they will tear up your yard and uproot any and all plants. They leave huge ruts and holes, so boar hunters are welcome. We see them dead on the side of the road sometimes too, some are huge. Not sure I'd try wild boar anything, was it good? My dad used to hunt and I do like venison.
I believe Python hunting season is now in the Everglades. We had a huge 16 foot Python in a grocery store parking lot last year. it was cold and it found the pavement for the warmth.
Gotta love Florida!

Too all that do not know, wild boar is delicious! I have had a lot and hunting wild boar can be extremely dangerous. An Kristen, when you bow fish, the arrow has a rope on it to reel it in. Did a lot of that when I was young around here.

Ahh ha! Well that makes much more sense now doesn't it? Does the rope affect the way the arrow flies? Or since you shoot into the water are there different mechanics to begin with?

One of my "dirty little secrets" when it comes to watching TV is that I am obsessed with Alligator hunting. I don't know why, it just fascinates me. Perhaps because it is such a radically different lifestyle than what I live. Anyhow, I watched a show once and they were going on a boar hunt in Florida. They were talking about how much of a problem they can be and that they are really quite dangerous animals with razor sharp tusks. It was really interesting.

Kristen, gator hunting is very interesting, we love it too (to watch and learn, NOT do!) Do you watch Gator Boys? That is our favorite show. We were going to go see them in the Everglades over spring break, but now they have moved to Mississippi, so I'm not sure what is still left at the park they were at. When I researched it, it did not say they weren't there anymore, keep hoping they will come back home to Florida!
Yes, wild boar are mean and destructive, and all over, even in suburban subdivisions where we live. I think they have the hunting deals to cut back on the overpopulation.

Not regularly, I usually watch Swamp People. Somehow I got on a different show, I was probably bored and though "yay more gators!" laugh I think that Gator Boys might be the one that I saw where they were boar hunting. Are they brothers that had some sort of wildlife refuge in FL?

yep, that's the one, not sure they are brothers, maybe though. They had a gator refuge in the Glades, but Broward county took over the park recently and I guess they wouldn't work with them. Now the show has them moved to a gator refuge in Mississippi. They lost 2,000 gators in Katrina and they only have a few back, so they go out and find them (they're tagged). Plus they go on calls to people who have gators or snakes at their house or in a dangerous place. They capture the gator and take it to the refuge. It's a cool show, you'd like it if you like gators. They're likable characters.
