Are you a weather chaser?

I know some people from the Northeast and I feel like at least 50% of the reason they go to WDW is to escape the cold winters. In Dallas it's just going from hot to hot, so not much of a factor here. Do you live someplace whether the weather influences your decisions?

Living in Buffalo, and having lived elsewhere in the Northeast, the problem with escaping the winters is the constant concern of delayed and cancelled flights. Buffalo Niagara International Airport though, has a great track record of getting flights off on time, even during snowstorms.

Sometimes, for us it's just the opposite; we tend to not go to FL in summer in order to avoid the humidity. We did go for a long weekend last week though, and the heat and humidity weren't that oppressive, probably because the whole Northeast is suffering through a hotter than normal summer.

We're in a similar situation Imagineer. We think of summer as the "no-go" time. Partially for weather but primarily because of the crowds. We do however sometimes go at times of year while it's still hot here, but has cooled down in Florida.

I've never seen the point in paying to go somewhere cold. Florida in December is almost like the UK in summer and so much better than the UK in winter.

I bet! Is the weather in Greece as nice as Florida?

My job doesn't really allow me to be. I'm a teacher and since I have 2 months off in summer I don't believe in taking school time off for a trip. Some schools get a week off in February but we don't. We get a three day weekend. I usually go somewhere even colder than Jersey like Lake Placid or Vermont because they are driving distance from me and still much nicer to look at than the highway outside my bedroom window. lol. Then I hit Disney, Cali., or Las Vegas in the summer. I'd love to go somewhere warm in winter though! Maybe when I retire! laugh

At the moment it's 30C (85F) most days with lower humidity than you could expect in Florida and no afternoon thunderstorms.

We've got a lot of teachers on here and they all have this problem. We need to create some kind of holiday just for teachers to go to Disney World sometime besides the humid, humid summer.

So clearly they should have built WDW in Greece. Except for the rioting of course.

The attitiude to life on the islands is so laid back they would still be building it! The protests on the mainland seem to have died down a bit now.

Any thoughts about going for Christmas sometime?

My family had talked about it but there isn't enough time to drive, as you learned from earlier posts I have a huge family and we could never not be together on Xmas or New Years. Also, flying here, or anywhere I suppose, during the winter holidays is risky. So many weather issues and just general delays that we could wind up paying that money and missing out. It's easier to just go somewhere chilly for tne 3 or 4 days we have!

That always happens to me, but I kind of like it because them I'm so busy that the last bit of waiting flies by.

I'm a teacher too so for us it's usually summer. Luckily schools in the south get out in late May..so usually we escape to the World as soon as possible after school gets out!!
We are hot and humid most of the summer in South Carolina so the change isn't really noticeable..but I'd rather go in June before it gets TOO scary hot like in July or August.

The weather isn't usually worse in WDW than Texas, BUT in Texas I don't spend much of the day outside. If I want to be miserable and hot I can stay here. laugh

We had a Sassogoula River Boat captain that was from Dallas. Since we were the only ones on the boat from DtD to OKW we chatted with her for the fifteen minute journey. I asked her about the heat, and if there is a difference between the dry heat in TX and the humidity in FL. She said that there was a marked difference, and get this, that she PREFERRED the humidity in FL to the heat without humidity in TX. Usually when I hear people choose, they choose the opposite. She said she had allergies, and the humidity calms them down a bit.

While her reasoning, regarding allergies, is sound I'm not sure what Dallas she's referring to. Dallas, TX is extremely humid - classified as a Humid Subtropical Climate. I've spent time in both and I would agree the DFW area is worse on hot summer days.

With regard to humid versus dry heat, I'll take the dry any day of the week. I've spent many summer days in SoCal, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. I would rather be in desert 110deg heat than ultra-humid 95deg heat any day. Also, at least in a desert climate it cools down later in the day. In some areas it can stay above 90deg overnight, and let me tell you, that is the WORST.

We live in the northeast and prefer to go in January. Not to escape our colder weather but to avoid the hot weather that Florida has most of the year. We always laugh at how "cold" the CMs sometimes thinks it is in January. June was our first trip ever during the summer. We had to go then because youngest son is a teacher.

The windshield wipers quit working on our motor home so while we were still taking it to Disney we would avoid driving in the rain. yay
