Hoorah!! I confess, I think baby hippos are one of the cutest things on earth. And on that vein I am happy to announce that a new member of the crash of hippopotamus' was born at approximately 10 p.m. January 14th, 2018! Accordig to Disney Parks blog the calf is staying close to momma Tuma. They also said that the animal care team is giving Tuma and her calf plenty of room to nurse and bond, so the calf's gender and weight may not be known for some time.
Tuma and her mate were chosen to breed as part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP), which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
