Best time to visit Disney waterparks

When/if we go to water parks, we always go right when they open -- figure we can get good chairs, hit the rides early, etc. But I've got a family friend who always goes in the late afternoon as a "relaxer" after visiting another park and getting all hot and sweaty. She says a lot of people leave the waterparks in mid-afternoon, so you can still benefit from getting good chairs, lower lines, etc... Any thoughts?

I'm interested in this too. I think crowds would really diminish the fun for me.

Wow -- I'd never thought about going in the late afternoon. That sounds like a great idea to try out. EVeryone gets tired and cranky by 3pm anyway.

Waterpark is really a cool place. We have been there (Waterpark) many times during afternoon and I think afternoon is the best time to visit there. We did not think about visit to waterpark in the late afternoon when we have been there however it is a good idea and we will think about next time.

Best Regards,

I think it depends on when you go. Last August early morning and late afternoon were about the same to me- both crowded! The first day I went to TL early AM to get shade. Then when I hit BB another afternoon I couldn't get seating. It was the second week in August which is still very busy. I think if you are going from the end of June to July your best bet is morning because those waterparks are crowded allllll day then.

Jess is right. In my experience, during busy times they can be busy just about until closing time. That said, if it's not one of those 'full to capacity' days people usually start clearing out a couple hours before closing. I've only been during summer when they were packed, but honestly I didn't think the crowds were that bad when compared to the busiest days at say MK. We were still able to ride every "ride" we wanted, as many times as we cared to by the end of the day.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I haven't been to a water park in ages; just can't stand the crowds usually. I've always wondered if I should go in January or something -- just brave the cold and enjoy the lack of people!

I bet a warm day in December is a great time to go. Although I think I might play it by ear if I visited in December. Some of those days are just too cold for being wet I think.

Just be one with the cold and you can have the park all to yourself. Does anyone know if they ever close it because it's too cold? I'd imagine they do.

We'll likely go, even if it is a bit chilly. The water is nice and warm, so I guess we'll just have to go on 'rides' over and over again.

Sadly you have to come out at some point!

We usually go to Disney in January. I do not believe we have ever been there when both of the water parks were opened. One or the other is always closed them for refurb. We have never been to either so I have no idea when the best time to go would be. Heck we have never even been in a Disney pool.

I'm pretty sure they'll close if it's too cold, but because the water is heated, they'll probably stay open even when the weather's in the 50's and 60's... that's my guess!

Might be more fun then, anyway -- especially if you have the Typhoon Lagoon wave pool to your self!

Also, Scrappy -- no pool use for you and Mr Hub?

DW wouldn't object to spending an entire afternoon in the lazy river. It could happen. I think I might have to sneak over to take in some excitement, shivering the whole way or not.
