Blizzard Beach vs Typhoon Lagoon

Hi everyone! We have added an unexpected trip to the summer! Blondie will be attending Disney's Summer Junior Golf Camp in August (when the depths of h_ _ _ rise up and take over central Florida) laugh

I am not a fan of the heat what so ever so I am planning early mornings, late evenings and pool/water park times.

We have never been to either of the water parks and it is almost $200 daily for the 3 of us. Her classes are 9am-2pm each day.

Is the cost worth is for us to be there just a few hours?

Are they very busy late in the afternoons?

Is there one park that you prefer over the others?

Thanks for any input you can share!

Good news is that water park hours are 10am-7pm during the summer as of right now. Now they are only open until 5pm. If it does decide to storm, they may close the park depending if the someone hears thunder or sees lightning. I have only been to Typhoon Lagoon. It was fun but lines can be long for the bigger rides and shark reef. I would think, if you go after her lessons, then hopefully a lot of people will have left by then or it rained and people left.

If the parks are open until 7, you're probably good. We went to each at 2:00 on days when they were closing at 5:00 with the thought that 3 hours was plenty of time to explore the water parks and find out what they were all about. I was so sad to leave at 5:00 on both days! I could have floated around that lazy river for hours!

They weren't busy at all when we were there, but it was late September/early October. I think the cost keeps a lot of people away.

I love both parks for different reasons. My favorite atmosphere is Typhoon Lagoon. It reminds me a little bit of Castaway Cay. It's very tropical feeling and I like the TL wave pool better than the float & bob pool at BB. I like the slides, both in style and variety, better at Blizzard Beach. My favorites are the toboggan slides because you don't suddenly plunge into the water at the bottom. You glide across it. If you don't go to both, the slides at TL are really fun, too, but they don't have the same level of novelty as the toboggan style slides.

Thanks Mandy, I was looking ahead to our trip time and noticed the 7pm closing. I just figure by the time we pick her up, get her back to the resort (New resort this trip OKW) change and get over there we would be pushing close to a 3 pm arrival.

Alicemouse, the toboggan slides sound more Blondie's speed, she doesn't like the big slides that drop you in. Sometimes it's a fight to get her to try new slides. She is still a little afraid of the water but has gotten better the last year or so.

Thanks for the info!

I love the Tropical feeling you get here, the whole Florida snow storm thing over at Blizzard Beach really does nothing for me. I want to stick my toes in the sand and sip a cocktail under a palm tree thinking I'm miles and miles away.

Haha! I hear ya, Kristen! We get enough or the real white stuff here. It's cute and magical on Main Street at Christmas, but not the vibe I'm looking for at a Florida water park. Though I seriously love the toboggan slides at BB. I would go there just for those slides!
