Calling any UK Passengers travelling with Virgin Atlantic
So I'm sure if any of you have booked with Virgin Atlantic you will probably know they are changing the way you pre book seats, now I'm not sure about anyone else but I've never been able to find any clear information as to when the pre booking of seats would become available...............Until! my delightful mom discovered a "calculator" which you put in your travel dates and tells you when you can pre-book your seats - the link is below but you must use it on a device that has excel installed (so no apple products!!)

King Fergus wrote:Dang...I already read this but looks like I've read it wrong...Correct me if I've got this wrong...we booked and paid our flights on 16th January ...We fly out on 12th October....Manchester...I thought after 25th June we could pre book our seats free as Virgin was asking I think, PS25 per person each way...But it looks like you have to be flying before August..?...
Fergus the way I understand it is you cant book any seats for our dates (we go a few weeks before you) until 25th June, if you choose to book the seats between 25th June and 24hrs before departure you pay PS25 per person each way, but if you wait until you check in online between 24hrs and 2hrs before departure virgin will assign you seats free of charge (same as if you check in at the airport) does this make sense???
Yes...I've read it again and it looks like your spot on...We were waiting until Saturday morning ( 24 hrs ) before leaving Scotland to do our online booking anyway...Our flight is 11.00 on Sunday but we are staying overnight at a hotel at Manchester airport..I'am wondering if Virgin will have their " Dreamliners " in operation.?...Somehow I doubt it..
Well once 25th June comes around I will let you know how the system works with our party only being 2 people we ideally want one of the few 2 seat rows so I don't have a random sat next to me (I like to spread out!!!) so if we have to pay ill cry as I had my money over for the seats!!! if by any chance they are free I will let you know!!!
you sound like you have similar plans to us - do you know which hotel you are staying in at manchester? we are at bewleys!
shame we aren't going at the same time!could have had a good ole knees up on the plane!!!

It's why we are not going until next year.Gives us time to save up and travel in style (first class is way out of our price range ( and not worth it on previous experience))

We did premium economy on our flight last year with British Airways (mainly for the extra bags - wasn't much more to upgrade) and we actually found that the seats didn't feel any bigger - don't know what they are like on virgin but still very jealous of you - couldn't go every other year my obsession has reached boiling point haha!

We did first class back on our Disneymoon and to be honest it wasn't worth the insane price hike from PE.Having said that we wouldn't travel cattle class again (if we can help it).Left it for two years as it was going to be a last trip for a long while so we wanted to go out in style but to be honest 2017 is being banded around already ... :

I understand!!! I don't think I can cope with a strange person sitting next to me so we try to get the rows with 2 seats in - done that a few times and its much more comfortable than I thought!!! if they reduce the price of premium economy I dare say I could be persuaded!!!!

you are quite right it is a 3-4-3 set up but there is 4 rows at the very back on the left and right with 2 seats (looks to be where the plane narrows a bit - you can have a look on the virgin website somewhere - don't know where but its somewhere!!!)

There's 2 Premier Inn hotels..The one I've booked is on site..I've always flew out of Glasgow, but the Virgin flight was PS775 compared to PS299 from Manchester..

Hmm I knew there was 2 but I thought they were both off site
I understand the price we haven't saved much but we used to fly down to gatwick and fly onwards from gatwick to orlando but British airways have stopped the flight, easyjet took it over but the flight times are not convenient plus we ended up travelling for over 24hrs so this year is like luxury travel!!!!

Thanks for this post, I had forgotten about booking the seats! Have now rectified it and found both flights are currently fairly quiet which makes me very happy!

Thought I would revise this topic as Virgin have temporarily changed back to their old way of booking flights as being 60 days out at the time of you flight (example our flight is 25/09/2014 at 11am so seats become available on 25/07/2014 at 11am) and are currently free of charge
They are still planning on changing the system but they have postponed this for a while - if you keep checking their FAQ's it will be written on there if anything changes!

they are in the process of changing everything around and eventually you are going to be able to book seats waaaaaaaaaaay in advance (cant remember the exact ammount of days before) and pay for them or wait until check in 24hrs before but for whatever reason they have decided to change it back to the old way for now - keep a check on the manage my booking and where it says seat selection there is a link to the FAQ for it.

We have used it quite a few times and it is great.it is located just on the side of cirque du soliel and the taxi should be able to drop you right nearby.i do believe that you have to take all baggage like checking In normally. You get your tickets etc so when you get to the airport you can head straight to the security queue.
