Caribbean Beach Resort

Hey, guys.

I'm looking for opinions about the Caribbean Beach Resort.

It seems really big looking at it on the map. If you had to stay really far away from the main building, would it be an incredible pain to get to the restaurant? What if you're super far away from the main pool...would you have to drive to it, if you wanted to go for a daily swim? How are the non-pirate rooms...good, or in need of refurb? What's the best building? Does having SO many bus stops mean it takes forever to get out of the parking lot and to the parks?

Thanks for any hints/advice/suggestions/warnings! Smile

I am booked there for April. After talking to my home travel agent, who goes there quite often I decided to go with the preferred rooms at CBR. She did say that if you stay farther away you can walk across the middle of the lake and it is not as far (when not raining). Each section has its own pool, but I want to be near the main pool as I have a toddler.
Cannot wait to be there clapping

We stayed at the CBR in 2005, I think - right before they did the Pirate themed rooms. So I can't speak to the current conditions of the rooms, but I can provide our insights to some of your questions!

We were in the Jamaica building, which is across the water from the main area - Old Port Royale. We thought it was a great location - a pretty quick and simple walk across the bridge to the restaurant, main pool, etc. The grounds we really pretty and the sandy beaches with hammocks were nice.

Each morning we walked or jogged around the entire complex, and I will say in my opinion, the building furtherest out - Trinidad South, esp. buildings 37, 38 and 39 - is quite a haul. If I thought I'd be going to the main building alot, I would consider driving unless time was not of concern.

As 6sixgees notes, each building has it's own pool, which we took advantage of. It was hardly used while we were there, as most people went to the main pool. That worked well for us!

There's also a place to rent paddle boats over by the main building, which we did once just for fun.

We had our own car, so I can't speak to the bus transportation, though we've heard it can be tiresome with all the stops.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there. Every time we start planning a trip, I think about booking there again; however, I still am totally in love with POFQ so we end up there instead Tongue

Thanks a bunch, y'all. I think I'll go ahead and request preferred rooms so we won't be stuck in the Never Never Land of Trinidad South! We will have a car with us, so we could take it to the main pool and restaurant if we needed to, but I'd rather not do the wet towel thing in the car if I don't have to, especially before an 8-hour trip home!

I keep going back and forth on the driving to the parks thing vs. taking the buses...seems there are camps who feel strongly about each. I may start another thread to see if folks can weigh in on that issue...

Thanks you guys, so much!

We stayed here about 4 years ago. I think we stayed in "Martinique". The rooms were very nice and clean. It was a regular standard room. Very tropical motif. This resort is VERY BIG. There were a lot of stops on the bus route. If we stayed here again we'd definantely request "Old Port Royale". That was the closest to the food court and pool.

We were there back in October and stayed in a pirate room. It was a fair distance to the main building but my husband discovered a shortcut by cutting through various hallways. Now the pirate rooms were ok but we felt they needed a bit of TLC. We had our own vehicle and did drive down to the main pool a few times but that was because we were worn out by all the walking at the parks. Our quiet pool by the room was quite nice but the main pool was awesome!!

That pool is fantastic! It looks straight out of the ride "Pirates of the Caribbean"!

We stayed there in October and stayed in Jamaica, like JeffC. We did NOT pay for a preferred room, though, so just request Jamaica if you can. It was a short jaunt over to the Old Port Royale area (where the pool and restaurant are located) if you used the bridge across the lake. There were many stops so it was often a long bus ride at the end of the night, but it really only bothered us when the bus was full and we were standing. The CBR rooms were just so-so in my opinion. Nothing wrong with them, per se, but I probably wouldn't choose to stay there again. I've heard other people say great things, though, so it's all personal preference!

I agree. I prefer the decor of Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter over CBR. It depends on the theme you're looking for too.

Thanks so much for your help, you guys! The pool does look VERY cool! The thing that bums me out about this resort is the double beds...even when they refurbed to create the Pirate rooms, it doesn't look like they upgraded the beds. What's up with that?? Bummer for a moderate, in my opinion. Sad

I think the regular rooms are queen beds, just the "Pirate" beds are double.

We had double beds in our standard room. I'm not sure if you can request queens for a standard room, we honestly just didn't think about it. But I know they at least have double beds as an option in the regular rooms.

You can probably request a "King" like you can at Port Orleans.

On "AllEars.com" it states that you can request a "King" size bed.

We stayed at the CBR twice in 2010 and stayed in Jamaica both times. The first time we had a "King" room and all of those rooms are corner rooms, but not every corner room has a King bed. The second time I specifically requested Jamaica Bldg 45, and the CM at check-in was super great and we got a Preferred water view room upgrade at no charge. The walk from Jamaica to Old Port Royale is quick and actually very nice, and the bus stop is not a far walk from Bldg 45. There are alot of stops since the resort is so big, but we don't mind to much since we love Disney transportation. The main pool is really very nice, but we do not care for the restaurant, Shutters. In terms of Moderates we definitely enjoyed Port Orleans Riverside more...the rooms are much nicer, even though the CBR rooms aren't bad, after the refurb, and we requested a riverview room in Bldg 27 and the location was perfect.

We just got back from our first stay at CBR. The resort is gorgeous. It is huge, and there are 7 bus stops I think. It does take a while to get through. There is also an internal resort shuttle if you need to use it. We were in Martinique. Room was decent with double beds. Bathroom was a different story. We won't be staying at CBR again, but we are in the minority. Apparently, you just need to avoid room 2105 and you should be ok. wink

We prefer POR and CSR.

We stayed in same building, "Martinique". It was nice. No bathroom issues, thank goodness. We did have the LONGEST wait for a bus. We definately prefer POR or FR QRTR any day! I have no big desire to return here would rather stay at either of the Port Orleans resorts. That's more our cup of tea......

Maybe it is because I got both of my requests, Martinique and Floor 1. The floor along the tub was rotting away and all black and gooey looking. I can't even think about it. There were other things too, but it must be just a few rooms like that. I have only come across one other person who was disgusted by their bathroom at CBR.

But POR is our very favorite! We like CSR for the location, and better bus service than we have ever gotten at POR.

OMG!!! So sorry for you...that definately diminishes the "magic" of staying at a Disney resort. We try to stick with what has been a winner for us, Port Orleans. The wait time for a bus at Port Orleans French Quarter was less than when we stayed at Riverside. We waited 5 min at the most! Longest we waited at Riverside was 8-10 min. When we stayed at CBR it was a good 20 min! UGH!!!!!!! Main reason we will not be returning....

That's awful! Did you say anything to the management?

No we didn't. I had read a handful of reviews where people were not happy with conditions of their rooms. Still the positive reviews of the resort FAR outweighed the negative. We are fairly easy going people and tend to figure that the negative reviews are probably from people who might be more picky, though not necessarily. I did not say anything because I figured that it might just be me and that maybe we actually are more picky than we thought. Sometimes self reflection can ease a mental dilemma for me. When I was not in the bathroom, I didn't think about it. The resort is gorgeous, the room was fine and I was going to have a good time and enjoy the resort. Kind of out of sight out of mind.

Once we left I started thinking that I might put it in writing. Our main goal is to experience every resort, so I can now say we have been there and now we won't be back to that resort. Even though the resort itself is beautiful and made it easy to enjoy.

The good thing about CBR is that if you are stuck in one of the far out buildings, they do offer an internal shuttle service to the main building

So I think we are switching for free dining to CBR, we asked for a pirate room or a preferred as we are switching form the royal guest suites

Thoughts?

CBR does not yet have QBs at all. Only the 2 doubles or a King. One of the description I read indicated that the rooms here are some of the smallest in the "mod" category. I understood that to mean there wouldn't be room for two queens as there are in other mod resorts. I know it's very large as a resort, and I think they have compensated by theming the rooms in such a way that the kiddos would be thrilled to be there.

My DH looked at the DIS site description and then saw the dbl bed statement and voted no. I know from reviews that the very things that turned us off are some of the reasons that others are thrilled.

Our TA is on the hold for us and is trying to get the FD slapped on as soon as she gets thr...so have to run!

The pirate rooms are cool but the beds are very uncomfortable. There is no box spring. We didn't sleep very well at all. I would say one or two nights in the room would be fun but then switch to a regular room for a good nights sleep.

Are there Pirate rooms in all of the buildings or just a select few?
