I did a brief (about a year) stint working in entertainment media, it was a natural progression considering the Disney overlap. However, I discovered that I really don't want to get to know the "famous" folks that I think I admire, because sometimes they suck. I would rather keep my illusions about famous folks, so I stay as far away from getting to know celebrities as I can these days.
But sometimes you hear about someone who seems to be a genuinely good person, and from my understanding Celebrity Chef Jose Andres of Jaleo & Pepe is one of those.
Last night on the ABC News I saw a story about a woman named Bonnie Kimball. Bonnie is a lunch lady at a New Hampshire high school and was fired from her job when she let one of the students take food for lunch without paying for it. Apparently, the parent company that she worked for said she committed "theft" and she was let go. She was fired because she didn't want to see a child go hungry.
When the news of this reached Chef Jose Andres, who is known for his humanitarian work in feeding furloughed federal workers and natural disaster survivors, he decided that he just might be in the position to do somethings about it. Chef Jose Andres made a tweet in hopes of contacting the woman to offer her a job.
That's good people.
