check out MY last Disney day!

Ok, so.. I just HAD to share my experiences from my last Disneyland trip which was Saturday 3/3...

ALL I wanted to do was exchange my Star Wars sweatshirt for a bigger size so I figured, "Oh, even though it's a Saturday, I'll head down there EARLY, exchange my shirt and go home"
Disneyland was set to open at 8am but I didnt get down there til about 845a.

As soon as I exit the escalator from the 2nd level of the parking structure a Cast Member was standing there saying "All services are suspended, we are evacuating everyone to the Pinocchio Parking Lot"
(for those unfamiliar with Disneyland's parking--they have a HUGE structure--I've heard at one point it was the world's largest--6 levels high.. and a flat lot next to it that they use for oversize vehicles--this is where they were herding us)

So of course everyone is asking why.. and of course the CM has no answer. So I get to the lot and a CM there is saying "you can stay here in this lot, or walk along the walkway to Downtown Disney and wait there" So I figured, if they're not letting us in to Disneyland, at least I can go to Downtown Disney and get a coffee while I wait. Some people wanted to just leave, but the parking structure was now closed--no one in or out. So as I walk toward Downtown Disney, I call home to see if anything is on the news. Of course there IS, and it's some sort of "suspicious package found in the trees near the entrance of Disneyland--no one is getting in, and no one inside is getting out". So as I approach, I see that I am not the only person with this idea, and the crowd of people has completely STOPPED moving. I am NOT going to get to Downtown Disney via the walkway.
So I veer right, and follow the sidewalk heading toward the Grand Californian. Not many people were going that way, so I figured I had a chance of getting through.

I was right, I made it to the lobby and found a place to sit on a couch. The place was packed of course, because both parks were closed. Great news at this point--ITS HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADER WEEKEND! yaaaay! Cheerleaders and their stage moms EVERYWHERE! I only lasted about 10 minutes until I headed for the bar. The bar was nice and quiet, and I settled in to wait since I couldnt leave, and I couldnt go into Disneyland.

The Cast Members were doing their best, but they really had no info for us... but Disney hotels have free wifi in the bars and lobbies, so Twitter and the internet had PLENTY of info! I kept in touch with the world via them. After about 2 hours, I told the family next to me that people on Twitter were reporting that the line was moving and they were being let in. Sure enough, about 5 min later a CM came through to say the parks were opening. I knew better than to get up right away, so I stayed another 20 minutes or so. Most people were heading to the hotel's entrance to the Grand Californian, so I went the other way to Downtown Disney, to try to get in to Disneyland. NOT my best idea because the mob of people had not made it through yet.
Here is a pic of the mob trying to get to the bag search...

mob

While standing there near the far end of the World of Disney, I noticed the doors were closed and they were not allowing people into the store. But, right after I took that pic, the doors were opened and me and maybe 12 others used that opportunity to cut past the rest of the mob in that line! We emerged on the other side victorious and were some of the first people into the park! HOORAY!!

ok so.. by now, I've made it into Disneyland.. it's about 1145a and I head to Tomorrowland to go to the Star Trader (since that's where my sweatshirt is from) The park was still fairly empty, and it was a gorgeous day so it was actually quite lovely. As I'm heading to Star Traders, I notice the line for Star Tours is practically empty and I figure, "Why not?" and I jump on. It took only 10 minutes! And the ride empties off right into the store! SHOCK! lol...

Well, bad news.. they only have small sizes in my sweatshirt so the whole thing is a bust! But the helpful CM says that she's seen the sweatshirt at a store in Downtown Disney, so I should try there. I decide on having lunch in the park (well since I'm there anyway right?) and I head to the Riverbelle Terrace in New Orleans Square for my FAVE Turkey Sandwhich. (not that pressed deli sliced turkey, it's sliced right off the bird!) So I had my delicious meal and I decide to head home. I had planned on staying only a couple hours anyway, and the events had me there later than I had thought. As I'm walking up Main Street, I decide that a churro would be a lovely dessert. So I grab one and take a seat on a bench at the end of Main Street under the Train Station (facing the castle).

As I'm sitting there, the horse drawn trolley pulls up and the CMs empty it of guests and do NOT allow anyone to get on. The two CMs detach the horse and try to get him to turn around. He does NOT want to and thrashes his head until the CMs stop. They calm him down and get him to turn around... they walk him to the other side of the trolley where the reattach him. (I think they wanted him to pull the trolley backstage). When they tried to get him to move, he apparently didnt want to, an he reared up and made a lot of noise! It was actually kinda scary to see, since only the two CMs were dealing with it they were also trying to make the crowd walk around the area. They finally calmed him down again, detached him once more and walked him backstage. Then they came back and pushed the trolley back themselves! I then decided to head to the store in Downtown Disney before I was stampeded!

I made it to the store in Downtown Disney, chuckling to myself as there was STILL a huge crowd of people trying to get into the parks. It took the store about 20 minutes to figure out how to do an exchange, but at least they did it! Hooray! Success! Time to head home...

***act III***

I get on the tram to return to the parking structure, and for some reason, we are just INCHING along when we get close to the structure. I mean LITERALLY inching! What the eff was going on now?! We finally make it to the stop and they let us off and I notice a small crowd gathered near the tallest escalator. As I'm walking to the escalator I need (the shortest one to level 2) I notice a man standing near the small crowd with his left hand completely wrapped in a large towel. Then just past him, I see a young girl with HER hand bandaged in the same manner. Then, just past them.. I see a woman, laying on her side right there on the concrete at the foot of the escalator. AND just past her, is another lady, sitting on the ground, holding her arm. There's several CMs milling about and telling people not to linger.

So I go up to my level and look over the edge to see whats going on. Apparently there was some sort of accident on the escalator (I never found out what exactly, but I can only guess A: the escalator stopped and made people fall or B: someone fell and took several people with them)
Anyway, ambulances were called, people were immobilized and strapped to boards and transported away!

You better believe I followed the 14mph speed limit as I left--Disneyland was CURSED that day!

Here is a link to a story on the "bomb threat" http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-disneyland-suspicious-object,0,3171547.story

oh btw...
the sweatshirt shrunk and now I have to exchange it again.

In case you (or others) had not seen any of the news about this, here is an article from March 3, 2012 from CBS.com on what occurred.

I am still learning the rules here as to what I am allowed to post link-wise, so I am just copying/pasting the article here.

Disneyland Reopens After Suspicious Items Deemed Harmless

ANAHEIM (CBS) " Disneyland reopened Saturday after being placed on lockdown for more than three hours while authorities investigated a suspicious item.

As tens of thousands of patrons were left stuck in garages outside the resort, Anaheim police questioned a man who called them to say he had left "some rolled up paper that contained, basically, a goodwill spirit message," said Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Bob Dunn.

"First he called us, and then we made contact with him," Dunn told City News Service. "He explained it to be a good message that he placed in a tree, and we're in the process of speaking with him."

Suzi Brown, Director of Media Relations and External Communications for Disneyland Resort confirmed the item was found to be harmless.

The park resumed operations just before 11 a.m. and announced it will extend its opening hours.

As a thank you to our guests for their patience this morning, Disneyland Resort park hours have been extended tonight," says Brown. "Disneyland park will now close at 1am & Disney California Adventure park will close at 10pm. Also, an additional 'World of Color' show at Disney California Adventure has been added tonight at 10:15 p.m. and an additional 'Fantasmic!' show at Disneyland has been added tonight at 11 p.m."

According to police, the suspicious item was discovered by a park employee about 7:10 a.m. It was reportedly spotted in a tree near a ticket booth.

The bomb squad was called to the scene. Police say no one was being allowed into the park but patrons were not evacuated.

Brown issued the following statement to CBSLA during the investigation:

"The safety of our Guests and Cast Members is our top priority. In an abundance of caution and to allow the security teams the opportunity to learn more, we are keeping Guests away from the area at this time."

Park visitor Chad Segersten and his family considered themselves lucky to be inside the park when officials closed the gates.

"We started noticing there was no crowds," says Sergesten. "I think it's the first time in history of Disneyland I got to stay on a ride. They said, 'Do you want to just ride again?'"

Those left outside the park were not as happy, reports a season ticket holder who visits the park twice per month.

"A lot of people were cussing and saying like, This is ridiculous; they should have a backup plan for this," she says.

I'm so sorry to hear that! It looked like you were in a lot of pain... I remember thinking that of course your day was ruined, but now you have this terrible experience at Disneyland Sad

How would you say the Cast Members handled everything? are they treating you well?

Oh DonaldDork! My goodness what a day..and your sweatshirt shrunk again. At that point I would just start believing that someone upstairs or the tree gods or something do not want you to wear that sweatshirt!

Oh dear! I'm VERY sorry to hear that Disney is not being forthcoming with your medical bill payments, especially with your injury being bad enough to need surgery. That's just not right.
