I didn't know this, and can't remember whether we did online check-in first and then FP+ or the other way around. Guess it must've been online check-in first.

You shouldn't have to check in first. People not staying on property make their FP+ at 30 days and they obviously can't check in first.
When we went last year I was able to make them at the 60 days. I've never done online check in so we hadn't checked in first. Unless they changed it recently?

I am so excited for you!
I know you are a Disney veteran but I think the most important FP+ are:
MK - 7DMT
EP - Soarin' (maybe test track?)
AK - EE
HS - TSM
Everything else was pretty much available to book while we were there, although not necessarily at our ideal times.

I haven't heard about having to complete on-line check before being able to make your FP+ selections. As long as your room and tickets are link to your MDE account, you should be able to.

When I booked my FP a few weeks ago I didn't check in first - in fact it was last on my list of things to do at 60 days my priority was flight seats, FP+ and then check in - and it let me book everything I wanted???

Spot on..We have made our 13 FP+ ..Here's a wee tip ( unless you already know ) If your trying to make a early morning FP at let's say DHS for TSMM but the times are all beyond 11.00am..Move one of the other attractions in the same tier..I.E..Rock n Roll coaster to an afternoon slot,it opens up earlier morning times for Toy Story..We don't do coasters..Got all we wanted including a meet and greet for our wee frozen princesses .. clapping

It was by pure accident that my DW was trying for an early slot and she moved Aerosmith to a PM slot, and as if by magic, up popped 9.30 slot for Woody..Done the same for Epcot.. wink

Setting up fastpasses is like playing tetris. You can keep moving the pieces around until they all fit together perfectly.
