Soooon.........
I admit, I am checking every day too for our October trip.
I have a reminder on my work calendar to check every day - would so love to snag an ADR for 12/29 or 12/30.......
I'm pretty sure they open up next month from the refurb. I was lucky enough to snag an ADR the night they closed. They were supposed to close in Jan but stayed open until Feb. I was so happy! It was spectacular to see Wishes from the top of the Contemp. Well they did say that they were re-opening next month. I wonder if they ran into a problem that's causing them to delay the opening.
I really don't think there is any delay, they originally stated it would be late summer early fall before they opened, and it's not yet.
I just wish they'd open up reservations for December. We know they'll be open by then, so why not?
Kris, I worked in construction long enough to know " you just never know what can happen ".
Just like the reservation system opening up for that short time for Nov 18, that was a glitch. It shouldn't have happened but it did. Now who knows what will happen when it really opens up. All those people, including JoAnn, better call Disney ASAP and verify if those reservations held.

I check my Disney Experience regularly to make sure my reservation is still there. I've confirmed it via the automated system and have talked to a CM. I have been told my reservation is good and valid and will remain. The CM told me he's jealous that I have a reservation there.
Edit - I also want to add that he told me that if for some reason my reservation is to be canceled due to a delay in the opening that they will contact me. He also suggested that I call again in the middle of August to reconfirm in case things change.
They had the lights on in the inside the other day and it looked almost ready to open. Of course I was in my car driving, so I couldn't see that much into it. They did say it would open like Aug 15 a few weeks ago on the website.
They had the lights on everyday when we were down at the beginning of the month. I think they leave them on 24/7.
I just called Disney to change my cell phone number on my reservations. As the CM was going through my ADRs, she said "how did you get a reservation for California Grill? We can't even make them." I told her the story and she thought it was pretty awesome.
Looks like it's opening September 9th? You can make reservations starting next Monday!

Whoo hoo! I know what I'm doing!
pooh, we are headed home on September 8th. Next trip for sure!
I saw the pictures of the restaurant online via facebook (Disney Blog) and no one has said one positive thing about the new layout. All comments have been about how small it looks and it's not very intimate. I've never eaten there so I don't know! Go check it out!
keeping my fingers crossed for everyone
it's not very intimate.
I don't think that the California Grill was very intimate to begin with. The space has always been pretty wide open to keep the panorama view from all the seats. However the wall configuration has made in so that you can't really get a good picture of the entire seating area, which could make pictures look small. From the Disney Parks Blog concept art they weren't really going to change the overall space as far as layout goes. It kinda looks like they moved dining tables into the area that the lounge had been in and moved the lounge seating right next to the bar. That means that more dinner tables will have a better fireworks view than before.
I never liked the decor of the California Grill, and I like what I've seen so far. Fingers crossed that it will be better in reality!
Truthfully it looks like they pushed the bar back some and opened up more space, also got rid of the counter area in the middle of the lounge area they had put in. That was a problem anyway. They did close up the lounge closer to the bar & got rid of the counter in the hall in front of the elevator. Think they put that back in the corner.
Got it! 7:10 PM on Friday, December 6th. Now I just have to decide whether to stick with the California Grill or hit the Flying Fish (my back up reservation in case I couldn't get the Cali Grill). The menu at Flying Fish looks so good, and my parents love Epcot, so the Boardwalk will be convenient, but then again its the new California Grill with a clear shot of the Magic Kingdom Fireworks. Hmm...decisions decisions!
Wohoo! Congrats on snagging the reservation! California Grill or Flying Fish? Sounds like a good dilemma to have...can't go wrong either way!
