Coronado Springs Resort - should I give this a try?

We've stayed at all the moderate resorts save this one. Any fans? What are the pros and cons of this resort? If you love it, why? Thanks!

We stayed here last time. It was a nice, clean resort. The rooms are super nice. And newer! Buuuut. I felt like the cast here wasn't as friendly perhaps because it's a convention hotel. I personally wouldn't stay here again. However Pepper Market is really tasty for breakfast!

Hi Poppet, Coronado is beautiful and I think somewhat easier to navigate than POR. (I've never been to CBR and I've walked through POFQ, but I've never stayed there.)

We stayed at CS in April 2012 for 9 days in the Cabanas (adjacent to the reception area, Casitas would also give this benefit, only benefit for Ranchos is the feature pool) and our only "complaints" were that at that time, the bus service was much slower than what we had experienced 18 months prior at POR and the availability of quick breakfast choices was limited.

At POR, we waited on average about 10 minutes for a bus, 15 max. At CS, the average was closer to 20 minutes and we waited as long as 30 minutes on two occasions. We talked to another guest who had waited 40 minutes for a return bus from EPCOT a few days earlier. The waits were particularly bad when we tried to travel to and from the hotel mid-day. Disney did seem to be addressing the issue because we saw survey-takers on property several times during our trip. Also, it is possible that bus service had been cut back everywhere as fuel prices had risen since our August 2010 trip where we had the most excellent bus service imaginable and there may have been a certain amount of luck at play.

The quick service cafe (is it Pepper Market? I'm not sure if that's what it was called. It's the little cafe near the gift shop) was mobbed in the mornings and at the time we were there, it was very small and completely unable to accommodate the crowd. One morning I decided to abandon my breakfast order after waiting for 20 minutes and just grab something in the park. The food was quality was perfectly adequate and the cast member were doing their best, but they were just overwhelmed by the number of guests. It's not impossible to get breakfast, but you should try to get there super early. On that particular day, I put my order in at around 7:55am and gave up at around 8:15 because I was anticipating a long bus wait and we were going to rope drop at MK. Other days were not as bad, but we were a little bit earlier and the set-up can definitely be overwhelmed faster than the food court at POR

If we had rented a car, both of these "issues" would have vanished because we would have bought breakfast items at the grocery store and we would not have been dependent on bus transportation. And, we chose to stay there despite hearing complaints from other customers about the same issues. We assumed that they were just being whiny! wink It is possible that Disney has addressed these points by now as our last stay was over a year and a half ago.

We still had a VERY fabulous vacation and I actually really loved this resort; although, I do think that I still prefer POR slightly over CS. The good points were that our room seemed slightly larger than our room at POR, pin trading in the gift shop was on Burrito, the "pin"-ata, the lake is beautiful, the resort feels smaller to me the POR (could be because I got lost wandering around Alligator Bayou at POR one night and it took me forever to find our building in Magnolia Bend!), our quiet pool was deserted most of the time, and I loved the hammocks on the "beach" and the hibiscus flowers everywhere. I would stay at CS again, I would just rent a car next time!

My parents just returned from CSR and loved it. They said the room was wonderful and overall resort felt like a deluxe at moderate price. They had no complaints.

My parents and I had a great time at CS. They didn't say anything bad about it. We didn't eat at the Pepper Market. We ate at the Maya Grill like the first night and the rest we had ADRs in the parks or other resorts. At night after work, I would stop off at the little cafe next to the gift shop and get us something to eat. I would take it back to the room. They also have a refillable mug station in there as well. We stayed in the Ranchos I believe and it was far from the lobby but it was a nice walk that we took a couple times. We would stay there again.

Besides having a great main pool area, CSR also offers many deluxe amenities at a mod price. CSR also offer business club level rooms now with lounge access.

CSR has queen beds, a sliding wooden door separating the sink area from the room (can be good for little ones napping in a pack n play) but only one sink.

Amenities include a fitness center, spa, free wi-fi, tanning beds, a sauna, salon, full menu room service and a night/dance club.

The resort offers the same toiletries as the deluxes (except GF). CSR has separate shampoo and conditioner instead of the shampoo/conditioner combo at the other mods and values (a small thing, I know, but it means I don't have to pack shampoo and conditioner).

CSR has the largest hot tub of the mods and one of the longest pool slides on Disney property. The pool, slide and playground area is great and all located in one area at the main pool.

Bus service is terrific and is not shared with another resort.

I stayed at Coronado Springs way back when I was about 9. I remeber really liking the pool area, the slide was awesome. I also remeber it being a really big resort and everything was a pretty long walk.

It's always a resort we've considered, but never made it to. I've read a lot about it on Buzz's Coronado Website, which you should definitely check out if you're on the fence about it. He'll give you the straight dope on this property, as well as give you hints on where to stay within the resort, etc. Let us know how it goes; I for one would love to hear!

I haven't stayed there, but I visited a friend staying there and I thought that it was just beautiful.
I would totally give it a shot if I were in the market for a moderate resort trip.

Anyway! I absolutely loved CSR and I agree that it feels like a Deluxe Lite resort at a Moderate price. It IS indeed a very large resort but I think that the size is justified for the style and complexity of the theme. Huge spa and themed pool area but I didn't get a chance to try the water slide. We stayed in the Ranchos section and I was absolutely charmed. Very old California Mission style, just beautiful. We had great bus service and never waited very long for a bus, I'd say 15 minutes tops. Maybe it was just my imagination but it seemed like the CSR bus stops at the parks were closer to the park exits than the other moderate bus stops. I can't wait to got back!

Glad you had a great trip!

Mittens

It's also the only mod I've haven't stayed at...I've read about the convention side of it..The table service at the food court..?? confused ..And I believe there's only one basin/mirror in your room..I could be wrong on that one...Our first stay was CBR..Very nice..Then our second stay was POFQ..Loved it better..Then our third..fourth..and fifth stays have been at PORS...Just love that resort...Especially the Mansion buildings..On that bridge overlooking the Sassagoula river at 6.30am and tossing my dime in and making a wish..I keep forgetting I'am new on here..There's a magical story behind that dime..I'll put on a new thread about it..It will bring a tear to your eye.. Sad(

What!? You know I'm Spoiled wink
I totally would have never considered it if I hadn't stopped by to see you there but it was really beautiful and I loved the whole feel of your room. It was way upscale compared to the other moderates.

Coronado is an Awesome resort. We like the peace and quiet it offers in the Rancho's section as there seems to be a lack of children (possibly because of the resort label).Busses are as good as anywhere else we have been. And to be Honest about most peoples biggest complaint(the size) .. It's not that far to walk to the bus stops or front desk in all honesty.

Oh and Hello Buzz2001 biggrin
