DCL Survey - Please participate!

There has been a lot of talk among this group about Disney Cruise Line, the mysteries, costs and benefits of it, as well as comparisons to other cruise lines. We've also talked about single travelers and connecting with a group.

With the WDWForGrownups permission, I'd like to gauge the interest in our groups putting together a four night group cruise for spring of 2010. I'm thinking this could be a very good thing as we could-
[UL]
[LI]take advantage of the group rates offered by DCL as a like minded group[/LI]
[LI]spend as much (or as little) time with fellow 'grownups' as we want[/LI]
[LI]enjoy the perks of group travel such as sailing cocktail party, etc.[/LI][/UL]
I'm not much on overly organized personal travel, but we could also have a few things set up at Walt Disney World BEFORE sailing, such as a 'watching Illuminations dessert party', etc.

I foresee participants setting up their OWN WDW arrangements, with primarily the cruise going through the group.

I proposed this as I have a couple of other groups that I'm trying to put together at the same time and combining them (numerically) just makes sense.

Here are my initial thoughts.
[OL]
[LI]Cruise would probably be in April or May of 2010. There are reasons for this as DCL will NOT do a group deal in the summer months. Their lack of inventory prevent it.[/LI]
[LI]I'm thinking the four night cruise. Usually you really aren't spending that much more money for getting a 4 rather than a 3 nighter, and you get an entire day at sea to enjoy the ship, etc.[/LI]
[LI]Initial registration would require a deposit, with second deposit later in the fall and the total paid around January of 2010.[/LI]
[LI]We'd probably set up a few group events at WDW before the cruise. These would be optional and at additional charge and really could be up to the group.[/LI]
[LI]Kids would be welcome. (Conflicts with school due to the date might be a problem)[/LI][/OL]
IF there is interest in this, I anticipate us having it set up approximately 12 months before sailing.

Anyway, I love to have things to look forward to, and think this could be a BIG time for all! Let me know what you think, give me ideas and suggestions or tell me to 'walk the plank', just give me feedback!

Making friends on the ships has been a big thing for my wife and I. We have our friends from England that we travel with because of DCL. There are others we've met through a cruise thread on DISBoards that we keep in touch with. For most people, this is a natural offshoot from the cruise experience. Having a group in advance that you are familiar with and want to hang out with can be a VERY good thing!

Ed

Hi, Ed!

Sounds like a good idea. Kind of like a land-sea deal before MouseFest.

It sounds like basically we have to decide 12 months ahead? I think it's entirely possible that by 2010 I'm feeling like taking a cruise or I might be working on a cruise. What would the deposits look like?

Not exactly, but I would have it SET UP 12 months ahead of time. Since a lot of people plan their vacations (particularly cruises) up to a year in advance, this gives everyone the chance to fit it into their schedules, and gives them plenty of time to pay for it. People could actually book as long as cabin space was available.

Initial deposit will be $25-$50 per person. It's pretty inexpensive. About three months later, there would be another $150-$200 (approx) available, with the bulk due at the final payment. I'd estimate that to be late December or January.

Oh, I wish, I wish, I wish I could get in on this. You guys are so much fun and it would be so great to travel with you! But we're already doing a cruise in November '09 and have started making friends on that cruise (due to another website). It's a great idea, though, and I hope it comes to fruition... if not this time then another.

Really interesting idea, MT. What would the total cost look like? And would this be through your travel agency?

I could definitely see this being fun, depending on the details of course.

I really haven't looked at cost as I wanted to gauge interest, but I think you could safely say it would be 5-10% below the cost offered to the general public. That is JUST an estimate.

We'd also get some ammenities like a private cocktail party, etc.

I'm glad to see some interest surfacing. I'll start looking seriously at it this weekend.

Thanks. I can't sign on any dotted lines, but would like to hear more.

Ed, what's the latest on this? Are your other groups coming together? Any more details?

So far, not much happening. I submitted a proposal to Virgin Atlantic a month or so ago to sponsor the dance cruise I want to do, but haven't heard back from them yet. They have a specific department where you send things like this, so I expect a yay or nay from them eventually.

That doesn't stop me, but I was hoping to tie the two together. If there was interest we could get a small group together and go and maybe get a few group benefits.

Thanks for the update. Dance cruise?

So I was watching a show on cruising the other day and I was wondering:

Do pretty much all cruise ships have giant slides, or is that only on the fancy ones?

I have friends who are friends with the British dance couple Darren and Lilia. www.darrenandlilia.com They are big on the British version of 'Dancing With The Stars', "Strictly Come Dancing".

They have agreed to do a Disney event with us, starting with a dance workshop/exhibition in London, then another at WDW (probably at the Atlantic Dancehall), followed by a cruise where they would do an exhibition while docked in Nassau.

We call it 'Dance Across The Atlantic', and would promote the three countries in ten days aspect of it. It's an expensive promotion though, and I need a pretty good sponsor to make it happen.

Nope. But they've got a lot of cash AND airplanes, both of which we need access to to pull off this. Not to mention Sir Richard Branson, who has to be the coolest billionaire ever!

I see! Well, the dance cruise sounds great. Any opportunity DW and I have to head to London is an opportunity we don't want to pass up.

Just heard recently on NPR that he's sold every single seat on his upcoming spaceship flights. That's something I'd love to do.
