Deluxe Resort Discounts

I'm curious if anyone has had this happen or has a strategy to do it. Last Christmas 2011 we booked our Disney vacation 6 months in advance and decided to stay at a Value Resort. I believe the price between Christmas Eve and New Years was $139 or so a night. Roughly 6 weeks before our trip we received an email saying we could upgrade to the Yacht Club for around $300. It seemed like a no brainer since rooms were going on the Disney website for $450 at the YC. Has anyone else had this happen? We are taking anotehr big family trip for my son's graduation summer 2014 and while we are set on staying at YC or another Deluxe resort we are thinking of booking a room in both a value and deluxe hoping that the value gets upgraded before it's too late to cancel the other.

I honestly would not count on it. As many times as we've been, that's never happened to us! If you upgraded for $300 and were already paying $139, were you not paying the full price at $439?

I'd say just book both and then cancel, but I don't know how late you cancel it.

I guess I could have typed that more clear, we paid $300 to upgrade for the whole week. I believe you can cancel up to 45 days in advacne with no penalty.

Wow...that's an awesome deal! I've never heard of that happening before, but you may have just scored some once in a lifetime magic that year...way to go!!
