I know it is a strange thing for an English person to post about but insomnia is a wonderful thing (sometimes). I heard about Diana about 3 years ago when she was planning to swim between Cuba and Florida without a shark net on the BBC World Service at 3am. I was fascinated and thought she was a total inspiration for not giving up. She had tried years before to be the first person to swim but weather and Jellyfish stopped her. Also inept skippering of her boat in the first few miles didn't help! Well she wanted to do it again as she was coming up to 60. She tried and failed. Not disheartened she went away thought about the shark problem found a solution and found a way around the stings of the jellyfish bodily but unfortunately the weather and facial stings stopped her last year.
I honestly thought she had given up her dream and was doing something "less" risky with swimming in a special pool in Times Square and raising money for charity. But no at 64 she is back for her fifth attempt at doing this fantastic awe inspiring feat. I have read her blog and there is a weather system about 3 miles behind her that they are watching at present which is a bit worrying. if a 64 year old can do this anything is achievable if you really want it.
Go Diana, swim safe, swim well and may the tides, jellyfish, weather and gods be on your side.
