Thought this might be of interest, even though we all know how we feel
I saw this this morning as well. It's interesting the comments about people who will visit DL but not WDW. I just had the exact conversation with a co-worked. He thought WDW was appalling and said he would never go.
Oh PLEASE! She thinks it will lose the magic. Key word "THINKS!" Give it a whirl. It is different magic, kind of. It is a vacation destination. You don't want both parks to be identical, so the uniqueness of them is part of the magic.
I grew up at DL also, and I would much prefer to vacation at WDW, although I try to get in my visits to DL when I am going to be in So. Cal.
DL, even with 2 parks, is still more easily worked into a vacation than it is an entire vacation. 2 totally different feels, but the sounds and the smells are all very nostalgic in both parks. I will still visit both parks even though I much prefer a whole week at WDW in a WDW resort using WDW transportation and taking full advantage of the DDP.
I'm amused by the parents who said, "We don't like Disney."
I imagine their kids are thinking, "What do you mean, WE?"
I actually have degree credits in theme park studies from the Disney University (college program) how cool is that?

Those poor disillusioned Disney haters. All I can say is...........GET A GRIP. Those parents are the reason you find kids don't know many of the nursery rhymes we grew up with. I think the mothers are distorting their daughters views not Disney. And as for the woman who won't go to WDW - I guess she never saw the Wonderful World of Disney episode where Uncle Walt showed the plans for WDW. It was HIS idea. I'm getting off my soapbox now.
I really feel sorry for the kids whose parents think so little of their intelligence and judgement. If limited exposure to all things Disney is going to destroy their self-confidence, and turn them into mindless consumer robots, then all I can say is "whoa" - you have much bigger problems with these kids than Disney! They aren't protecting their kids, they're insulting them. And being kill joys while they're at it!
Thank heavens my parents recognized it was OK to have fun sometimes, and drove half way across North America to take us to Disneyland back in the 60's. These are some of the best memories I have, where I got to see my parents being silly and enjoying our family time. We continued the tradition with our son, and took him several times to WDW when he was younger. Now that he is a grown-up, he has just introduced his girl friend to WDW - the fun continues!
We are in our 60's now, and we're still going and having fun. Next trip in 5 weeks - yay!

Time marches on. Eventually you realize it's doing it across your face.
Agree! My kids would never pick anywhere else but Disney (and they are adults). Pretty much anything anyone would love to do is just a short walk or bus ride away.
Cheers!
People who hate Disney? I think we should call them "Disney Scrooges"

I think that people need to put it into perspective.
It's a vacation. As much as it's a vacation I love, it's a vacation.
So my daughter's self image and world view are NOT going to be shaped by the fact that in the stories, the Prince comes along and saves the princess. It's not real life (Come on, the spokesperson is a 6 foot tall MOUSE for crying out loud!!!) My kids get that it's all make believe, not the real world. We spend at least 51 weeks a year NOT at Disney-- I don't count on that week in Orlando to parent my kids for me.
And, yes, Disney makes lots of money. But so does Apple, yet I don't see the haters putting down their Ipods and Ipads and Iphones. Kind of selective about their hatred of commercialism if you ask me.
Yes, it's crowded. It's some of the best people watching on the planet. But I don't think that's bad. It counters the "princess as role model" argument-- we've spent time on line talking to people from a huge variety of backgrounds and cultures. Some are probably a bit surprised to see my Korean son with his blonde mom-- that's a good thing, it broadens horizons. I think it's GOOD to see that not everyone is exactly like you.
It's not the right vacation for everyone-- one of my sisters simply cannot see what another sister and I love so much about Disney. And that's fine, she's much happier vacationing on a lake with her boat.
But for my family, Disney is a vacation to plan for, to enjoy, and to look back on fondly.
Hey if they don't want to go to Disney, it's that much less of a crowd!
Their loss, & look at the positive side of all these Disney Scrooges staying at home, less crowds!
Exactly!
Wow....that's just amazing to me. But to each their own, I guess. More Disney time for me!
