Disney Resorts changing to all white duvets - No themed bedspreads

I did a search for this topic and didn't see anything, so hoping this hasn't been covered yet.

Upon doing some research on where we may stay during the Disneymoon, I was reviewing Portorleans.org where they mentioned that all Disney resorts are going to all white duvets and ditching the themed bedspreads. One reason being that they will be laundered after every guest.

While I am all for clean linens I can't help but feel the detail to the theme will be lost.

When we were at All Star Sports in December we did have the all white duvet with the scarf across the foot. At the time I thought that is just how it was supposed to be not knowing this change was coming about. It was clean, fresh and comfortable.

But when I look at the Moderates and especially the Deluxe resorts it feels out of place to me.

Looking at Port Orleans- the Royal Rooms had such a rich, stately look and now when I see the stark white duvet against a navy blue bed ruffle, it seems as if the room has loss some of its regal element.

In contrast, when I see white on the Magnolia beds, they seem to fit more to me, perhaps because the room has more white highlights and the duvet pops with the green walls.

I can picture this in some rooms like the Grand Floridian but yet rooms at AKL seem darker and richer in design where a white duvet would just stand out uncomfortably.

Has this change happened at all the resorts already? Anyone have thoughts about what it looks like in other resorts?
Do you miss the themed bedspreads?

I agree that the themed bedspreads are cooler, and they make the room seem more magical...

But I'm gonna go with clean. Knowing I'm not sleeping with a bedspread that God only knows what has happened on (babies being changed, honeymooners getting frisky, kids with colds sneezing and wiping their hands all over the thing, etc., etc.) is a good thing in my opinion.

I kind of like the all white duvets with the scarf at the bottom of the bed. However I agree that in certain rooms they won't fit the theme. Like in AKL maybe they could do beige or even an off white to blend better.

First of all, the scarf at the end of the bed helps a lot! I agree that just the white sheeting is too stark in a RR at POR. When we were there in March, they did have the scarf at the bottom, and the deep blue and gems against the white sheeting really made it pop. Sorry, I can't seem to find any pictures of it. And having the family that no matter what I said seemed to be rolling in the old bed spreads, I like this much better.

What you're talking about is called triple sheeting, and it has become the industry standard for cleanliness. It can indeed make the room seem a little more sparse, but the scarf at the bottom does help.

I personally hate hotel bedspreads and have always removed them as soon as I get into the room so I'm fine with this trend. It's entirely a tactile thing to me though, not a visual thing. The feel of the triple sheeting is softer and more comfortable to me. Visually, having the clean white sheets makes it much easier for me to inspect the bedding when I check in. I'm not one of those people that takes a blacklight with me, but I do always check for bedbugs because they have become so prevalent in the US over the past several years.

I'm all for this. On one of our trips in 2012, we found blood on the bedspread at POR. EWWWW! eek Housekeeping replaced it right away, but I was left wondering what else was on those things we didn't see. At our last stay at POP, our mousekeeper noticed that I had taken the bedspread off one bed, and folded it down to the foot of the other, and she made up our rooms accordingly from the second day on. We really appreciated that.

I don't mind that they aren't 'themed' - there is plenty of theming throughout the resorts, so it's not something I will miss.

Disney takes bedbugs seriously. They are always checking for them and if they do find them, they take action immediately to get rid of them.

This is like those dirty restaurant pieces on the local news - sometimes I am just completely content living in total ignorance. If you don't tell me, then I don't know - the less I think about stuff like that, the happier I am on vacation...

So true! Things I really don't want to think about...

In regards to OP, I prefer not only the cleanliness of the new white duvets, but the crisp clean look with the white and the themed scarf. I do agree though that without the scarf it doesn't tie nicely into some of the theming.

I do think they need to stick with a themed scarf at the end of each bed just for aesthetic purposes in overly themed rooms, but in general I enjoy a minimalist white look so I'm cool with this.

This was how it was at the Boardwalk in January. Never really thought about it, but I'll go with clean too!

I knew about the change as I read it elsewhere. I am SO pleased for the change, bedspreads are seriously old fashioned, plus I would take it off the bed the day we checked in and then had a big thing taking up space in the room for the rest of the trip. I love the bed scarves, they still add to the decor while keeping the beds looking clean and fresh.

It was? Huh... I never notice stuff like that. As long as the bed is horizontal and somewhat soft, its good to go. pillowfight

I love a simple white. It just feels cleaner since dirt stands out.

Yep, this is what we have now at SS too. I agree with Kristen - feels so much more comfy. I want this for home!

Last May(2013) when we stayed at the Beach Club they had a white duvet and themed scarf at end of bed. Also, this past January (2014) we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. It too had a white duvet and themed scarf. Maybe they started with the deluxe resorts first?

I like this - for the cleanliness and for the classy resort feel.

Although the bedspreads were mostly pretty and cool, they are falling out of fashion - and remind me of some lower quality motel chains I've stayed in. The all white duvet makes we think of some upper end hotels and resorts - and cruise ships - I've experienced!

The Contemporary was one of the first to have these and the last time we stayed at a resort without these was before they refurbed the rooms at the Poly and that was Oct 2012. Jan 2013 the Poly had the duvets and bed scarf.

Those are great pics, MrHub, and the whole feel makes for inviting rooms, I think! So light and airy - beautiful!!!

That's cute that they put the scarf up and down instead of horizontally....

Has POFQ changed to duvets yet? I googled but couldn't find any pics.

Me too - I was super impressed with it when I went to visit Becks there. The room she was in (that looked like the one above) was chic and modern while still having that South of the border feeling to it. I would totally stay there if I needed to book a moderate.

Thanks Magic Mirror - great picture. I like the duvets. They give a much cleaner, lighter look to the room and the scarf is a clever idea to brand/theme each resort.

I like the change to the duvet covers. Whenever I stay in any hotel room I always fold the bedspread up and leave it at the bottom of the bed.
