Disney Transportation

If you are not staying on property can you still use Disney transportation to move around the parks or to go visit a resort for a meal?

For instance if we drive to MK and park there but we want to have lunch at the Wilderness Lodge and then return to MK do we need to get back in our car and drive to WL and then back to MK or can you take Disney's transportation.

Same question for going between theme parks in the same day.

Thanks so much for all of your help.

I do not think you would have any one questioning you about whether or not you are staying on property. So I would say yes you can. However going from one park to another is not always a quick or easy thing to do using Disney Transportation. I do not believe the buses run from one park to another.

In all the many years and many times we have been to WDW we have NEVER been asked for any form of ID either issued by WDW such as room key or park pass or other form of ID. All you have to do is get on the bus and hang on!!

Anyone can use Disney transportation, monorail, bus or boat. When we didn't have passes we would go all the time and go to the resorts, dtd, or just hang out on property. We take family there for Christmas and spend the day going to all the resorts and cool places, and they can't believe you can do that, we use all the transportation. We usually park at boardwalk in the self/employee parking across the street (it's free and you don't have to go through the gate). Walk to Boardwalk and you can get anywhere in Disney from there. We park there to go in the back way to Epcot too, when we don't feel like parking in the big lot and taking the tram, plus I love walking through boardwalk!

Most of them do actually..for example, if you are going from Epcot to AK..there is a direct bus. The only one that isn't direct is any park to MK. They drop you off at the TTC and you catch the monorail or ferry.

Technically the buses are for resort guests..but in all my trips I have never ever had anyone ask me for my room key. I even had my cousin and her family come visit us at our resort and we took the bus to DtD together with no problems.

Thanks so much for the feedback...I don't think we are going to run into that situation, but I wanted to have a full understanding before trying something.

I guess the best way to get to a particular resort (for a meal) if you are staying off property would be just to drive there and park in their self parking. I am sure people do that sort of thing often.

We are at 44 days and are getting more and more excited!

I thought if you had some form of Disney ticket you could use them, not just for hotel guests? Maybe the person I read that from was wrong though.

No ticket that I know of, we rode the bus last in December, and have for years. We don't do the bus as much as the boats and monorail. You can take the bus to a resort for dinner, just allow extra time. I'd drive, and when you get to the gate, tell the guard you are there for dinner, they'll ask for your license then tell you where to park.

I have never had an issue on a bus or a monorail. However, years ago (on my senior high school trip), I was asked for resort ID when I tried to board the boat to the Grand Floridian from MK. Our class wasn't staying on property, but a few of us wanted to go over and walk around the GF. We ended up taking the monorail instead with no problem. In the last few years, I stayed at the GF, and boarded a boat from MK to GF, and they did not ask me for ID. Just wanted to mention it. There are certainly ways around it, but just in case it would happen to you. Doubtful, though.
