A Disney World Bookend

We know some people who are planning their honeymoon. They're going to someplace, likely Hawaii, for 2+ weeks and also want to visit WDW for about a week. They asked for my advice on whether the Disney World part should come at the beginning or the end. My thought was at the end because it will probably be the "easier" and more relaxing part. What do you guys think?

Good question; I think it really depends on how "relaxing" the Hawaii part will be. That can be an active vacation or a lazy one.

I'm not sure they're 100% settled on Hawaii. Plus I'm fairly convinced that almost anywhere is going to be harder than WDW.

For what it's worth, we did Disneyland and Hawai'i on our honeymoon. This is different than your friends' situation for the obvious geographical reasons. We did Disneyland first, and then Hawai'i, and that worked out well for us.

Do you think there would be any more merit to going at the end vs. the beginning? I think they're leaning towards going at the start as well.

We're going in four weeks (woohoo!) and we're doing Disney first knowing we run ourselves ragged there. The Caribbean cruise the second part is for relaxing on the beach, by the pool, gambling, eating, drinking, and having fun. Disney is work!

That's a really good point. A cruise is definitely even more low-maintenance than WDW. Are you a big gambler?

We've talked about this, and I'm in favor of the Disney part first.

Mainly, because we keep the throttle pretty well wide open when we go to Disney World. Probably not even as much as some of YOU, but for us we're going all out.

When we've combined a trip with Disney, I always want the relaxing part afterward.

From my perspective, I'd hate to spend several days in Hawaii, with the first couple of days recovering from minimal jet lag, to then have to fly all night to get to Orlando where you'd be positively wasted the first couple of days.

Go to Disney World first, keep all cylinders going full blast, wear yourself out, then take a long flight to Hawaii where you'd have a week or so to do nothing but relax and think how much fun your NEXT trip to Disney will be!

I definitely say whichever one is more relaxing, do it 2nd. If I was going to someplace I'd never been before, I'd probably go to Disney World second.

I wouldn't say big gamblers in that we spend a lot of money, but we do a lot of low limit play - especially poker. We play for fun, not for profit (though a little profit doesn't hurt!)

So a good deal of time spent, but not much money. Gambling can actually be a pretty efficient way to spend your money if you maximize free drinks and really enjoy it. Sadly I get tired too quickly.

You know, I can't tell you how much this reminds me of the vacations I take that *aren't* to Disney World...I'm always wondering when they'll be over so that I can get back to Disney World. eek laugh

I think having "expertise" in a location tends to make it less stressful. That's one of the big pros of Disney World. I've been so many times it's old hat.

I can't say that I find Disney World stressful, but it's more "work" than another vacation. It's certainly not a put your feet up and relax type!

Well, it CAN be...but then I feel like I'm wasting money because I'm just sitting by the pool all day and not taking advantage of my park tickets!
