Disney World Character Dinners

So we've done LOTS of character breakfasts, a few character lunches and almost no character dinners. Are there any that we should try?

Dinner in the castle is always fun.

That's the one that springs to mind. Liberty Tree Tavern has a dinner as well. Has anyone done Chef Mickey's for dinner?

Does working there count? Smile The atmosphere is exactly the same, and Mickey Waffles are replaced with Micky Mac and Cheese! (or used to be anyhow.) There is always something on the carving board, though - ham, roast beef, turkey - and the desserts - used to be all handmade, hope they still are - are impressive. But I've always gone for the breakfast, because basically it's the same atmosphere for much less $$$

I would agree with Cinderella's Castle though. While I've never been, I think there would be a different ambiance - dinner is a la carte from what I understand, the sun might be setting - better than the preplated breakfast, with lots of very excited children getting ready to start their day.

I have to agree with LTT. It was lots of fun when we went!

That's the only character dinner we've done though..I am not sure why!

I could be wrong but I thought that they did away with the character meal at LTT and all they have there now is regular dining.

That's correct. I believe they brought it back briefly while Crystal Palace was closed but it's gone for good now, I think.

I like going to the Grand Floridian to see the Mad Hatter and Alice! I think that's a fun one and it's nice to walk the grounds there afterwards, too.

We've only been to 1900 Park Fare for the character breakfast, Dsoup, but I thought it was really good. and the Pooh, Alice characters, plus Mary Poppins, are fun.

Is 1900 Park Fare the one with the ugly stepsisters as well? I have always wanted to go to that one.

Dinner in Cinderella's Castle is awesome. The food is great. It's my favorite restaurant in all of WDW, but I am a little biased because that's where my husband proposed to me.

Wow - Lizzi! What a great memory! Have you told the story here and I missed it? If not, we'd love to hear it!

I am always so confused about LTT..they are the wishy washiest character meal of all time. Do they have characters again?? It seems like every day I see an article "Characters back at LTT" then the next day it's "NO more characters at LTT"/

I THINK LTT was back to character meals ONLY while CP was undergoing a refurb, and they (LTT) are once again minus characters.

I believe that Vettelover is right. The last time we were there (Sept 09) they did not have characters. We are going to MK in a few weeks so I will check and see.

I had friends that went to Liberty Tree Tavern at the end of May 2011 for a dinner. They were very disappointed to learn that they stopped the character meal.

I've done a lot of character meals. I still havent been able to get into Chef Mickey's though Sad. This year we're doing lunch at the castle for the first time, and Ohana again Smile.

Yeah my bf actually suggested we try the castle Smile. I'm excited about it, it replaced my sadness over not getting into Chef Mickey's yet again.

I have a number of food allergies so my reservations have to be done in advance particularly due to my celiac. Things like beef, soy, whole corn, and kiwi can be handled easily but gluten is another story entirely. Hence why I make the reservations as early as possible.

So they can't accommodate you if you don't call early enough? That seems unfair. I know planning ahead is good but what if some random person just walks in somewhere--they can't do anything?

They can accomodate it, well most of the restaurants can. There are a few that cant without advanced notice. However advanced notice gives them a much better chance of having specialty products I can eat, and thats a big deal to a celiac. You'd be shocked at how many things have wheat, oats, barley, or rye in them. Its a lot easier if they know that and can plan for gluten free bread, a marinade that doesnt contain soy sauce (yes that has wheat and is usually used to salt and marinade food), premake a salad without croutons (because taking them off leaves crumbs), arrange for a dessert. Disney can also arrange for sauces to be thickened with other flours if they know in advance.I've had plenty of steamed veggies and plain broiled chicken or fish meals, no thank you I like real food. Real food has taste, I was told no gluten, I wasnt told no taste Smile.
