Does anyone have any suggestions for getting a room upgrade?

I booked a stay for my family at the Art of Animation in a Little Mermaid room as a Christmas gift. As we are coming close to our trip date(2/24,) my little brother has become more aware that we are staying in a Little Mermaid room and is really disappointed about it. As a college student paying for a vacation for my family, I can not afford to upgrade to a more boy-friendly themed room, but I don't want to disappoint my brother(7 years old.) Someone mentioned that they thought the front desk person may be able to offer me a different room, but to be completely honest, I feel really guilty about asking. I understand the worst that can happen is that they say no, but just the fact that I am asking for something I didn't pay for is unsettling. More recently, I have decided that I will at least ask in hopes to make my brother's experience as great as possible, but I just assume I will be shot down immediately. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions about how I can go about possibly being moved to another room (Lion King, Cars, Nemo) for no additional charge?

Thanks for your time

Not really to be honest. You can always ask... but the chances are really slim. Usually the only time they do an upgrade is when they mess up pretty big.

You can always ask if a complimentary upgrade is available. I wouldn't get your heart set on it though. Do you have any sort of celebrations going on that are marked on your reservation?

The Mermaid area is not overly "princess" I'm sure he will feel just fine. You will walk through the Lion King staging on your way to your room so he'll be able to play in that area for a bit. The Little Mermaid Wing has a statue of Erik, Ursula, and King Triton as well as many fish and "Props" like chests, beer mugs and a pipe. It's not particularly girlie, if that is your (his) concern.

Perhaps to help him feel better you could play up the Prince Erik, King Triton, Sebastian & Flounder aspects of the movie to help him get excited about the non-princess parts of the movie. Maybe you could asked to be put in King Triton's building.

I appreciate you taking the time to point out the positives of The Little Mermaid and I will surely have to try and upsell him on the male aspects of The Little Mermaid. I am not at all counting on the upgrade, but I suppose I can hope for some Disney magic! From my research on touringplans.com, it seems like the week I am going is a very slow week in comparison to surrounding weeks so maybe I can hope that they have a ton of extra rooms and are willing to help me out.

I am not sure if you could change your reservations this close to your trip but you could call and see if you could change from the AOA resort to the All Star Sport. I am pretty sure it would end up costing you a little less.

Good idea, that would probably appeal to a young boy a lot more. Or if you'd rather stay close to AOA, Pop Century might be a little more appealing as well.

unless you plan on spending more time in the hotel room than the parks, it really doesn't seem like that massive a deal, i'm sure there is plenty of "boy stuff" to do

I was also going to say that it may not be too late to change to POP or Sports. But I also think that you should be able to play up the masculine side of things, and maybe spend some time in other outdoor areas of AOA.

I think it would be beneficial to call and speak to an agent to request a room in the King Triton wing and explain the situation. Maybe being that you are going during a slower time of year they'll be able to accommodate your request. It's definitely worth a shot. I don't know how good your chances will be to switch over to a Cars or Lion King room, but best of luck Smile

Glad to hear you got your upgrade. My fiance would love to stay in an Arial room. He's obsessed with her its his other woman.
