Doing Disney World Solo

So with our friend Gray just returning from a Solo trip --

Trip Report:
Part One
Part Two
Photo Blog

I was wondering how many of you have ever gone solo and if you'd have any reluctance to. As someone who's traveled a lot I'm pretty good at dining, seeing movies, etc alone, but I'm not sure how keen I'd be on Disney World solo. I think if I was going to take a solo vacation, I'd go somewhere else, although it does have a lot to recommend it as a solo destination. What do you guys think?

I only went solo one time and for one day as I was traveling and got the opportunity to layover.

Went to the Magic Kingdom, wandered around a bit and had a ball.

I wouldn't mind doing it again, but Mrs. MT tends to want to tag along when I actually TELL her what I'm doing.

It's great; you just have think about your trip differently. It's an opportunity that few people ever get to experience the detail of Disney without having to run from one planned activity to another. It's also a good way to chat with CMs who know so much more than we do about the Disney company and its secrets.

I think going solo is an experience that any amateur Disney historian should grab at.

Woo-hoo! I'm a millienarian? Thanks for noticing.

I'd think that if it was your first time going to WDW, it would actually maybe be a little bit harder than most destinations to try solo, but if you have been once or twice it would be way easier. It might just be easier all around, though.

Hi,

Congratulations, Brad, on your 1,000th post. I'm a member of several WDW fan sites, such as Disboards, Tagrel, and Passporter, but have never reached that milestone.

I don't mind going solo anywhere, as long as I can get around without a car at my destination. The last seven of my eight lifetime visits to WDW, including the 2006 and 2007 Mousefest cruises, have been solo trips. If I waited for someone to go with me, I'd never leave home.

That's one great thing about Disney--you really can get everywhere without a car. Makes it so much easier to go solo when you like to indulge in a glass of wine now and again!

There are so many people who do Disney solo, but there really aren't that many places that talk about it. Or maybe I'm just missing some resources?

That's a great question! Are there any good sites out there with solo trips highlighted?

I've seen a couple of blogs dedicated to Disney Solo, but I feel like they're too busy traveling solo to write their blogs. None of them stood out like SoloFriendly's.

Blush. Why, thank you, how kind.

As far as message boards go, sometimes you see solo trip reports at Intercot or the DISBoards, but they're few and far between and you have to hunt for them. TripAdvisor has a Solo Travel forum, but you don't really see Disney posts there.

What are the blogs you've seen that are dedicated to solo travel to Disney? I'd like to check them out.

Here's one that I check out once in a while:

Alone in Walt Disney World

I was re-reading this thread and I would actually think Disney would be a really great solo destination. It's so interconnected and self-contained it seems like an ideal solo spot.

I had part of one of my trips alone and really enjoyed myself (and I'm not a big fan of solo excursions). I didn't spend a lot of time in the parks alone though, because I was a single young man at the time and met a single young woman (before I met my lovely wife) who I hung out with while there.

You and MouseTraveler are Disney players! Was she a Monorail pilot too?

Must be really good with the ladies if you're meeting them by accident. I wish you'd taught me your secrets when I was younger. laugh

Sheesh, you take 20 or 30 laps around the monorail track one night and you're forever labeled! laugh

Yes, we now refer to MT as the "Monorail Mack Daddy"
