DVC--the "no cleaning" policy

During my stays on rented points, I've always found it to be a real kill-joy to come back to my room and not have it cleaned. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with an un-clean house back home laugh but on vacation that's always been one of the "perks" for me.

Does anyone agree and/or pay for the extra cleaning service?

Nope. We make the bed and hang the towels up and thats about it. I understand your feeling, because thats part of vacation, but we just roll with the flow.

It really doesn't bother us. When you are "home" it's just like you are home - no one cleans your house for you! laugh

Seriously though, it really does, in a way, make you feel like you're at home. We make the bed, and hang up the towels too, just as if we were at home, and wouldn't even consider paying for the cleaning.

And they do have trash and towel service on the fourth day.

I actually prefer their current cleaning policy. Often we get back to our room late morning or early afternoon to rest. Knowing that someone would be coming in to clean would not let us rest or take naps, because we will have to wait for them to show up. The current schedule where they come and replace towels and toiletries on the 4th day is also convenient since this is quick, and they tend to do this in the morning.

So no, we never pay for extra cleaning service since we are perfectly fine with what they are doing now.

That's a really good point. We often do the mid morning or early afternoon rest and encounter that problem. I've ususally used the do not disturb signs, but then you might just get bypassed and not have the room cleaned at all.

I've stayed in a couple of DVC Villas and wasn't completely annoyed by the policy, but it definitely wasn't what we were used to. I think it might be a case of differing expectations between owners and non-owners.

I HATE the cleaning policy! When I'm "really" home I clean. When I'm on. Vacation with my children I would love the service. I kind of regret buying the time share... There are no perks at all. I could stay at the other resorts and get maid service daily. I had slime come out of the jets in the bath tub. I had a mini bar leak and soak the whole floor once. The cushions on the couch at the Boardwalk are ripped. I guess I would look the other way if I didn't have kids but I do. The maids also threw away my sons pin collection once. The resort replaced them
With new ones but it's not easy calming a child who has high functioning autism down. For those of you that like to clean on vacation buy a second home!!

I really do appreciate the daily housekeeping at the regular resorts --- feels luxurious to me!

Do you own DVC? I think if you just "stay" at DVC you get regular Mousekeeping..but if you own or rent points you get it every four days.

I always worried about those kinds of things with DVC. It's interesting to hear someone's perspective who's had those frustrations. Most of the DVC members seem to be pretty happy with it, so it's nice to hear some other viewpoints.

Welcome to the boards by the way!

I do not mind the cleaning policy at all. In fact I have often wondered if you could request not to have the housekeeping service while staying at non DVC resorts. I always make the bed and we always hang up our towels. I love not worry about whether or not housekeeping is in or wants in our room.

We usually put the Do Not Disturb sign out until we leave in the morning so they don't wake us up. If that means we don't get service, then we live with it.

That's technically renting points..so I don't know..maybe you just got lucky or your friend requested it.

I'm with the Scrappy camp on this one..actually I prefer for Mousekeeping NOT to come...maybe I'm paranoid but I just don't like people in my room with all our stuff.

I dont mind it either, but the only thing that bugs me is we have to pay for upkeep costs. I cant remember how much it is a year, but with that in mind... I would like to have an every other day at least. But I dont mind it. Its not like we cant get more towels by the pool if we need them.

We stayed at Boardwalk villas via Disney Company, not renting points. They do mousekeeping daily that way. It costs more, but my dad was in a wheelchair wheelchair
and there were 7 of us, so we needed tons of space, and we needed reliable service so we were gun shy of renting points. It was totally worth it to pay more and to have the rooms cleaned daily. They loaded and emptied the dishwasher, made the beds, folded up the pull outs and even emptied and folded the laundry in the drier for us once as a nice surprise.
Hubby and I might consider renting though I'd miss mousekeeping and the towel animals for sure!

I don't like to have daily maid service myself.

I much prefer a mid week cleaning.

With a washer & dryer in the room I can was whatever needs washing and since I don't have a dishwasher at home, having one at my Disney "Home" makes it all a snap.

I have no problem with it. In fact our last stay I didn't expect T&T service because we were there only 4 nights. I thought they wouldn't come until the next day when we checked out. We felt a little invaded that they came in the day before we left since we didn't expect it.

My cleaning lady comes once a week maybe and otherwise we are OK with taking care of ourselves. Just becuase I'm on vacation I don't want someone else coming in and cleaning up what they think is trash. I've had maids throw out things I want to keep, I'd rather they leave my stuff alone and I'll take care of it.
