The Element of Surprise

In the "Half Way Point Blues" discussion, LifeIsForLiving was mentioning how he has a bunch of surprises planned for his wife on their trip and how that gives her something to look forward to every day. This got me thinking about an interesting strategy:

You and whoever you go with all take turns planning each trip. You don't tell the others what you're doing and you don't even look at event calendars or whatever. You just go and let the captain tell you where to go next. I think that could be a blast.

Sadly this doesn't work well for solos, but my solution -- Let the WDWFG guys plan your trip and they'll send you text messages telling you where to go!

What do you guys think?

I think that's an awesome idea! That sounds like it would be a lot of fun. For me, I'm pretty much always the planner (with her line of work and schedule), but I enjoy that. It's just as fun for me to plan and do nice things for her as it is to be on the other end.

Yeah that's the only problem I foresee. In most groups there's one who's much better at planning. (In mine it isn't me)

I think it's fun to be on the other side every now and again though. When our lives will accomodate that, I'd like to give that a shot.

Um...This would NOT work for Obsessive Compulsive Controlling types like me. I think I'd stress out MORE not knowing what would happen next! =D

I like knowing things. I'd rather be the one planning the surprise than the one getting it most of the time!

The idea sounds like a blast to me. Obviously there are some people who aren't open to surprises though. silly

@bali
Yes, scrappy plans the whole thing. Each trip we try to do something new for them. Last year we surprised the our friends with a trip to the spa before we went to the parks, it was our friends wifes b-day, and then for dinner we had reservations in the castle for dinner.
This years we are surprising them with the illuminations cruise!

I'm with Bali in the Obsessive Compulsive Controlling Club!!!! I enjoy the planning as a huge part of the fun. I would not like just showing up and following someone else's plan! sad

However, a surprise event here or there would be okay, such as if DH booked and illuminations cruise without my knowing...... crossfingers
(Anyone want to email DH for me? wink )

Scrappy only plans the meals and something special here and there. We do not have every days activities planned out, My god, I see those type of people now and then I dont think that is an injoyable vacation. I saw a women in September telling her group they had 20 minutes to be here, then they had to go to this ride, and if that line was to long, the had to be somewhere else at such & such a time. That would drive me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!

@Dopeynme -- what's DH's email, I've got it taken care of! Wink

@MrHub -- NO KIDDING! I can't imagine that. I remember a travel channel special a few years ago where they highlighted a few families and their touring styles. One had laminated (laminated!) schedules for each day. Those poor kids...
