Thanksgiving is a big deal in our family, but over the years it's becoming a bit of a hassle. Has anyone ever thought of doing holidays like this at WDW?

I've heard of a lot of folks leaving the cooking up to Disney. I think Thanksgiving at Hoop dee doo revue would be especially fun.

Lots of Disney restaurants replace regular menus with a thanksgiving menu, or they add a thanksgiving dish to the regular menu. I think it'd be a great way to get the whole family together. Though I'm not sure what crowds are like at that time...

Hoop dee doo sounds like a great idea for Thanksgiving. That's gotta be a "book it as far in advance as possible" thing!
In every guidebook I have ever read about making plans to visit WDW, Thanksgiving week is always in the top five times to avoid going. Which I kind of hate because every 7 years, my birthday falls on Thanksgiving and I would love to have my birthday celebration there one year.
There was one year, I did go camping in Orlando over the Thanksgiving holiday. Went to Universal and Sea World...not Disney. There were hardly any crowds at either place. Had T-day dinner in a hotel dining room across the street from the campground...a Turkey Dinner Buffet. Wish I could remember what hotel it was as it was pretty good for hotel food!
Life is what you make it...then there's Disney!!!
Mike&Donna, I think the crowds are bad for the weekend, but other than that you should be OK! As long as you don't brave the parks for a couple of days I think it would be really fun to be there on thanksgiving.
Christmas, though -- that's another story!

Actually, the crowds are not too too bad. I went with my high school choir in 2004 to perform at the Candlelight Processional Thanksgiving week and it was not as crowded as I thought it would be!

Wow that's really interesting. I hear everyone talk about how bad Thanksgiving week is, but most of them are 2nd hand reports. I assume you were a singer Caitie?

Maybe we lucked out, we didn't go to EMH parks or anything...but our longest wait was maybe 30 minutes for the big attractions.
Yes, I was a singer. It was SO much fun to be in, I want to go see it sometime!
Caitie, I didn't know you were Candlelight! What an incredible event to be part of. Who was your narrator?
It was awesome! We actually got to have Roy E. Disney as our narrator!!!

Wow, it doesn't get much more exciting than that! Was yours the only one he did?
That's awesome Caitie! Do you still sing with the same choir that got invited? Was it a school choir or something else?
I think he did two nights, ours and the next night. I think I was the most excited about it...
It was just a high school choir, so I have been out of it for years. I miss it! They go every three years, so everyone who makes senior choir has the chance to do it. We also got to perform at the Rotunda before the America movie wit hthe Voices of LIberty which was a lot of fun too!
If I could, I would SO participate again!
Do you know how they pick the choirs that go?

I am pretty sure you have to send in a tape (well maybe DVD now) of a performance and then they select based on that. I am not 100% sure, but it is something like that. I am pretty sure once you are in, you can go again as long as you are good (hence the every three years that my school's choir went).
The music is actually quite difficult, but it makes it fun and challenging!

So you guys weren't the "break in" year?

No, the choir had gone three or four time before, but I think we had to send in a tape to show we were still good.

From my choir days, I was always glad to get some challenging music! Then putting it together with other choirs is always an extra challenge! I was never at Candlelight, but had the opportunity to "meld" choirs once or twice -- not easy!
Any type of singing is challenging to me!

Yeag, this was melding like...8-12 choirs I think. The music also made me lose all meaning of the world joy. There was a five part harmony that just went "joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy" again and again and sicne it was so difficult we would work on it for 20 straight minutes. Sing and word for that long and it will lose all meaning!

Roy E. Disney as your narrator?! That must have held a truly special significance for you. What an experience!

I think I was the only one really excited about it...he was a last minute change and I started jumping up and down. Everyone else said stupid things like "Why can't we have a real celebrity" and I resisted the urge to smack them.
If you have never even seen the processional and have the chance it is worth waiting around!

Good advice!
I'm glad you didn't smack your choir-mates, but the desire to do so really shows your Disney fandom!
