My husband thinks I'm crazy, because I saw the commercial and the first thing out of my mouth was "We need to book another cruise." laugh

Looks like it might be a good movie. Haven't heard anything about this at all, though!

I saw this last night and I am so torn.

Overall I loved the movie, I thought that it was a compelling story (at least for someone who loves the sea and the people who live by it), it was beautifully shot (some really lovely camera work and art focused images), and the effects (we saw it in Real 3D) were fantastic. It was just missing a bit of spark.

I think it was probably not edited well, they went with focusing on the action, when it was really the emotions and warmth of the people that needed to drive the film. There was probably a lot of the character development that was left on the cutting room floor I wish I could see. This is a real shame, because the personal stories that we did get piqued my interest. On top of that, Disney was just completely lost in the marketing of this film. They did a really poor job and it got lost in the machine.

Chris Pine got top billing in this movie, but the actor who stole the screen IMHO was Casey Affleck. His character was a bad ass engineer of the ship that Chris' character was sent to rescue. The female lead was super pretty, and spunky, I want her wardrobe.

I'd like to see a directors cut, and discover a little more about the people. Overall though, if you love the sea - great movie.

I missed a chance to get to a press screening of this last week. I've since read reviews that can't quite place the movie's intentions but it looks amazing...I haven't even heard of this movie till now, so it has to be another one of those John Carter things where they don't quite know what to do with it.
