Food at WDW ".. On Par With Hospital Cafeteria Food.."?

I couldn't help it. She wrote a bunch of other "money-saving" things one can do at WDW, but I couldn't get past the first on the list when I read what she wrote. So that is why I'm posting this in the Dining forum.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/5-things-skip-disney-world-130600015.html

Quote:
1. Skip the food.

I really wanted to like the food at all the theme parks, even the pricier ones at the World Showcase at Epcot, but the food was on par with hospital cafeteria food. Now the worst part of it all was the price. For three adults and two kids, our average bill was $70. That is way too much money, in my opinion.

And of course, I just couldn't let that stand, so I posted a comment. As of now, I've gotten quite a few positive responses. My comment is buried in there somewhere because this article is receiving a lot of rebuttals from many Disney fans! Smile

Zz.

Maybe it's a fancy hospital. Le Cellier General Hospital. Via Napoli Hospital for Special Surgery. Monsieur Paul Medical Center.

She's a hater

I disagree with her food comments and skipping the PH. Even the food at the QS places is quite good and well above cafeteria food; I am not exactly sure where she ate!

Pretty much any Disney food is better than the crap that's coming out of my kitchen. Of course, since my cooking skills are limited to entrees I can microwave or open with a can opener (it's not QUITE that bad, but it's close), maybe I'm not the best judge.

OK, I readily admit that I'm a food snob. There are very few TS restaurants that I'll go back to, but I have 4 or 5 QS spots that I want to stop at every time I'm there.

She needs to try a few Signature Dining locales...

All I can say is that hospital must be really nice!

Clearly she has never actually eaten at a hospital cafeteria. Some WDW restaurants, particularly the quick-service places, serve fast food for three or four times the usual price, but I've never had anything as nasty as hospital food at WDW.

$70 for 5 people doesn't sound too bad to me. Heck, I dropped $80 on dinner at Citricos for just me. What do they usually dine on the McDonald's dollar menu?

She must have a chef on staff at her house, if she couldn't find any good food at the parks. Her entire article didn't show much excitement for Disney. I'm always truly surprised when people don't love their Disney vacation.

Agreed! $70 at a sit down restaurant ANYWHERE for 5 people would be decent. And if she's paying $70 at the QS places she's doing something very, very wrong.

Most of our meals were $70 for the two of us, so for a family of 5, that is very reasonable. She just doesn't "get" the magic. Sad for her kids!

If she thinks hospital food is bad, she'd think hospital food was Michelin-star food if she ever tries prison food! By the looks of it, prison food looks and tastes worse.

I get it sometimes money trumps all in certain situations but to make everything about money for every single situation may end up backfiring.

I seriously question where exactly she ate on her trip. If it was mostly character meals or table service, it's a big money difference than eating mainly at quick service places. And what restaurants did she pick?

But in all honesty, I've been told that Dollywood, Knoebels in Pennsylvania and Busch Gardens Williamsburg are known for having great theme park food being that they are all Golden Ticket Award winners for the best Park food. (That's the Oscars for the amusement park industry, fyi.)

I've been out to Knoelbels a few times and found Disney food superior. Maybe I didn't try the right stuff? I'm sure Dollywood has great food compared to everything else around it! The area is a bit rural for me

I complain about Disney food a lot, mainly because they put on airs and call it "dining". But for theme park food, it's very good. Universal is even bad by comparison. If I recall, (it's been a few years) Busch Gardens has some decent food.

Disneyland has some really good food.

I have redacted offensive material from several posts above and inserted a more universal descriptor. Please refrain from stereo-typing or mudslinging, just because they have a differing opinion. I welcome discussion about the subject without the need for racially motivated context.

My deepest and most sincere apologies if my content offended anyone. It was obviously very poor in taste and judgment and very out of character from me so to speak. I ask for nothing but forgiveness at this point.

No worries on my side JW, we all slip into touchy subjects now and again.
