Guess who's moving to California!

We are! yay

Joe and I are moving to the East Bay/Oakland area.

The last several weeks have been super-busy. We had to get the house ready to list, and we've been out in Oakland this past week scouting out housing and checking the area out. It's been a blast!

The house sold in 6 days, and we close towards the end of September. Once that happens (and maybe even before), we'll pack up everything, and drive from Charlotte to Oakland with the pups. Weeee!

Of course, this will put us within striking distance of DisneyLand, which I've been wanting to see. So now our 50th birthday celebration plans are focused on DisneyLand and posssibly Hawaii, since it's practically next door. Haha.

So that's what's been going on with us the past month. mickey

Congratulations and good luck Jeff! Let us know about your adventures in DL. I am looking into going to DL through Adventures by Disney in the future and would like to visit where it all started!

Congratulations, and good luck with the move.

If you need to downsize the amount of Disney memorabilia that you have to move, I am willing to take some of them off your shoulders (or truck as it may)! Smile

How fabulous Jeff. It sounds like everything came together perfectly. I am so jealous - that is one of my favourite places in the world to visit - living there would be heaven.

Hurray! yay Welcome to California! I'm a California native and am somewhat biased when I say it's the best place to live! Once you're here you'll have many opportunities to visit Disneyland, and even Hawaii although it's one of the places on my bucket list that I've never been - maybe next year =)

Congrats on the sale of your home and entering escrow. We listed our house here in So. Cal on 13 Aug and entered escrow a week later. We close 2 days after we return from our Florida trip muchlove

The next month will be rather hectic for you, but you're going to love the Oakland/East Bay area. awesome

Congrats on your sale, move and going to Ca. 6 days wow. We have houses in my subdivision that have sat for over a year. I miss Ca so much! Wish I could go back, but its not meant to be right now. You should enjoy the bay area. We didn't have to the flooding or the wildfires you hear about in SoCal. Southern Cal is a whole different breed then Norcal, but you will discover that.
Sorry I haven't been here long is it a move for work? The navy moved us from Washington to Maryland and we did it with 3 cats, its an adventure. awesome

The flights to Hawaii are so cheap from Ca especially SFO. When I lived in Hawaii I was able to fly home a few times a year.
Congrats and Good luck. clapping

BTW 122 days yeah

Well thank you, everyone! We're excited! We just got back last night from a week out there and had such an awesome time. We can't wait to get out there permanently.

And yes, mrhub, I have been bursting at the seams to share the news! Just had to wait until we got everything pretty much in order and confirmed. YAY!

Zz, Joe is threatening to make me downsize my Disney collection! We are going to rent a 2-bedroom apartment for 6 months and then try to figure out something more permanent. If he tries to make me get rid of things, I'll make him get rid of 1 kitchen item for each Disney item! HA! Tongue

Angels, it is work-related. But I am keeping the same job. I'm lucky in that half my department is in Charlotte and the other half (and my boss) is in Oakland or San Francisco. So it was an easy sell to move out there.

I am sure we will work our way back to Orlando on occasion - too many fond memories to just forget about it!

I hate to say it but you will bore or DL really fast. It is almost identical to WDW except for a few rides and it is so much smaller. You can put all of DL in MK parking lot. I guess it will be a SMALL slice of MK heaven for you. Now the new park, whatever they are calling it now a days laugh is small but totally different. Now if you like rides don't forget to check Knott's Berry Farm, Universal, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. While you at Knotts Berry Farm try the fried chicken. There might be a wait or a line on the busy days but it is worth it.

Also, while you are down there go to Mann's Chinese Theater. I can't remember exactly where it is but really close to the theater is Mickey's Star on the walk of fame. yay

But, I will let you settle in before I tell you all the great places to check out in Ca. laugh

Oh my gosh how fantastic!! yay Can't believe that your house sold in 6 days! So lucky! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Northern California. I spent my summers in San fransico growing up (my Dad lived there in the Castro) and I lived there for 4 years in the early 90s and I would go back in a heartbeat.

I disagree 100% with getting bored at Disneyland. I love Disneyland so much, it's completely different, you can't compare the two, there's a different mindset to both the cast members and the guest because it's a 70% local crowd vs. only 30% local at WDW. Disneyland has it's own wonderful magic that's intimate and delightful.

Let's see, it would take me 6 hours from the South Bay when I lived there, so you shouldn't be more than 6/7 hours away. It's an awesome weekend trip, I used to do it all the time. PLUS, you're right by the Disney Family Museum, so you'll have access to the special events that happen there as well!

And you're so close to wine country and some truly amazing restaurants. I'm so jealous!

Thanks Mase! You are AWESOME!! He'll have to pry any Disney stuffs out of my cold dead hands!

Kristen, we had a chance to hit up the Disney Family Museum on Friday evening with a co-worker who offered to get us free tickets, but we had to pass so we could try and find a place to live before we left! But it is on my short list of things to do.

WOO! ZOMG the countdown till we leave is killing me!!!

We're starting out with an apartment until we can get out there and decide where we want to live and all that. Houses to purchase are pricey. So we want to spend ALOT of time deciding. And Joe says he refuses to commit to one more house until I commit to stop moving us around for at least 5 years! eek

Congrats Jeff and Joe, you are moving to my home state. Go Raiders!
Now you can cruise Disney when it's on the west coast biggrin you may find DL and DCA small in comparison to WDW it's still awesome and you'll have a few rides that aren't in WDW. The best past is you will get your glow with the show ears clapping
I wish you both all the best and a safe and fun move.
Smile Dee

So tell me this, Jeff, did you have to "de-personalize" your house before you put it on sale? All the standard real-estate guidelines will tell you that you have to do that to make potential buyers truly see the house and not get distracted by your personal tastes. So did you have to de-clutter and store all the Disney stuff?

It's funny, because when I was looking around for a house to buy 3 years ago, we stumbled upon this house, and the thing that stuck out was that there were hints that these people were big Disney fans (picture on the console table of the family in front of Cindy's castle, Cars wall border, etc.. etc). This was mentioned in another thread. Their real estate agent, of course, asked them to store a lot of their Disney stuff and tone it down quite a bit. Well, we ended up buying the house, and so, it was passed from one Disney family to another.

I'm curious to know if your house was also passed to another Disney family. Smile

Zz.

Thanks Dee!

Yeah, Zz, we know that routine all too well. I will say that I offered to de-Disney-fy the Disney Room, but our Realtor actually liked it and told us to keep much of it, just de-clutter a bit. Which is what we did. Below is what it looked like for showings.

I don't think these buyers really had an interest. I remember when we bought our house in Phoenix, the people were FANATICS, and proud of it! Joe had to pull me out of that place - they even had a few rooms painted official Disney colors! Joe swears I agreed to buy the house because of that, but it really was a nice house and close to work, so I stuck to that story Tongue But see-kritly, just between us, it totally swayed me. mickey
